Hey Kep,
Is it the same rules as the last contest?

Oh - I guess a small part of me was hoping for a lift on the no-post work. I totally understand why it is there - to showcase the programs ability and to "level the playing field".

Though I'm not sure how much it truly levels the pool we draw from for these contests. If I guess right - most of us used photoshop to create pieces, recolor pieces, make custom lighting effects, etc. for our maps.

And I guess I was wondering if DJ was still intending to offer store credit and the spotlight to the winner. With such a dismal showing I wasn't sure that was going to stay the same.

Granted - I'm not totally sure why I asked. I'm competitve enough that I'll throw a map in the ring if I have the time to create it. Regardless of rules or rewards.

I take it the rules stay the same then......

...Finished my map already..........

....Only kidding ....Finished in my head anyways..

One thing I am not quite sure on, is the art I created
for my map was the ones entered in the art contest...
You said SC can set the next challenge.....

I have done a little sketch of my next map...and it
would require about 15 new art pieces....well you
see where I am going....these may not neccessarily
correspond to the next art challenge.....

considering what Micah rightly termed a 'dismal showing'
there might be less people actually entering that
contest.....

I'm thinking of doing a map this time around - but I really want the post work ban lifted - there is a way around it such as doing the post work as a layer and then importing it as *.png I suppose or is that bending the rules?

ae

Good point ... but how to determine the next theme if there are 2 winners? Should they discuss this together? That might work if both are present enough (haven't seen SC in a while).

For now we wait for SC and if he hasn't chosen a theme by the time I get back from my short vacation (until next friday), the theme will be the same as the map theme ... ok?

The no-postwork rule stays the same

An ae map......falls off chair....composes self again....

I use that technique to create my outdoor maps...save as
.png so I am able to put the trees and vegetation in
in Dundjinni (because its so much quicker)....I think
its within the rules....although I suspect Kep would
disagree.....

I guess what I used as the rule of thumb for my last map was - If I create it as art(.png), will someone else actually be able to use it. The answer was yes (hopefully) with the stair. No with the water seeping out from around the well that I wanted to pull into PS and feather the edges for. Yeah sure - it would have made the map look a lot better - the water was one of my peeves - but would anyone else ever use a patch of water in that particular shape again - highly doubtful.

Now that's certainly not been stated as the rule of the contest, and if it does ever get defined that you can get around the rules in that manner - I'll be the first in line. I guess because I wasn't terribly pleased with the map I entered for this contest.

Sorry for stirring the kettle on the issue. I suppose that part of getting the store credit and such is trying to showcase the program without props. If it had brought ten or fifteen competitors into the contest - I'd be all for it. If Mindy is actually able to use the art that comes from this to showcase the program - I'm all for it. If it will keep us from scaring the new blood away - again all for it.

Just not sure it really is accomplishing any of those things. Though it was really good to see the spotlights changed. So I'll sit on my pessimistic "Judge Judy" self for a while until "Mona Lisa" decides to come back into phase.

If it will bring in more people to the contests, we might have to change the rules a bit. But the fact remains that it must be a DJ map.

Adding height blurring outside DJ (like when you add several floors) is acceptable to me at this time. Feathering is acceptable in very minor ways and should always be mentioned when posting the map. This is not just to stay fair, but also to not give newbies the idea that it is possible in DJ to feather.
Any other thing you like to add as postwork you can contact me about to discuss it.
In general, any postwork needs to be mentioned ...

Of course we could also make the contest in such a way that you can simulate everything that DJ2 will be able to do, but then you could start creating your map for about 95% in PS

I will post a poll about all this
