Hi folks....

How to make objects with shadows...this is very simple to
do & gives very good results....

First of all pick your object (Aegean's Church) and also
try to make your shadows with the floor tile you are
going to use....making it on a white background is no good
it will either be too dark or too light.....

Now we need to copy the church and paste it on top...

Now to make it into a shadow...we first of all have
to make it black.....so brightness up & contrast down..

Now apply some gaussian blur....

Now adjust the transparency...sliding bar in the Layer
box...

Now move the shadow off centre and move the layer below
that of the church so you can see what it looks like..

Good....now that would be fine for a normal object...but
for buildings, towers etc. a like to create a bit more
height...so copy the shadow you have made (you will
have to addjust the transparency again) move it further
off centre than the first one and hopefully you will
have something like this...this is just to show you how
you would use it in DJ....you need 2 shadows because
1 on its own does not create a realistic effect...

All you need to do is select your shadow and save it as
a .png image (just save the one shadow).

Now if you are really clever you can do some more....
I have put an angel statue on and created a shadow..

..you could of course do the entire scene in Gimp....
but you only need to create a few shadows to get the
desired effect...so it is actually easier to complete
in DJ, espeacially when you are putting in lots of
objects....hope that was not too complicated...

...if you are wondering why I am not using drop shadows..
the simple answer is...it does not work for complicated
shadows.... and of course it is not reusable

*Update*

A simplier method to copy a layer is - Right click on it & chose Duplicate Layer - This copies it directly above the original with no hassle.....

You are right, Cisti, it's really simple - but that doesn't mean that I would easily be able to do it without being told how! Excellent tutorial!

I think this should be in the Tutorial section. I had to do a 'search' to find this. I remembered it from long ago and wanted to see it again. I looked under 'tutorials' but didn't see it.
