In both the Campaign and Darkness's Campaign art sets, there are a lot of icons for various buildings, towers, castles and keeps. What I'm looking for is something similar that would represent an entire city. Is there anything like that around? Okay, I could just put a blob on the map, but that's pretty boring.

I take it you want something more like a picture than a symbol? Otherwise, these would do nicely.

Yes, I'd like something more along the lines of the keeps, castles etc found in the two campaign packs than a symbol.

You could use some of the isometric art for that ...
Look in the Iso-subforum.

I was looking for more of a top down view than isometric. Such as something similar to the Castle and Building Objects in the Campaign art pack.

EDIT: Like these castles, but a city instead

Would be cool objects to have ... Perhaps someone can start making a bunch of these?

I'd make them myself, if I wasn't so bad with graphical programs. Perhaps someone could buy me a nice graphics tablet?

A good place to check is civfanatics. It's a free registration to get into the forums, and then you can access lots of user art and game art designed for the civilization series.

They're pretty small and some may require a bit of editing. Here are a few examples from Civ III (I'd assume they're for non-commercial use only, but you can read the usage rights at their website... much of the art is contributed by users).

IMO, the symbol sets from profantasy (i.e., campaign cartographer) do a pretty good job of this as well, though they aren't free.

I'd forgotten about CivFanatics (I've actually got the set you got those images from), as I was looking for top down stuff. There is some nice stuff there.

Cisticola, that's the sort of thing I was originally thinking of.

You can take the .PNG from the downloads here and use them in top-down maps (if the image is approriate). I've found a whole bunch of things that were really useful, just have to play around with them a little.

Got any links to examples that would be suitable please? (That's the thing, haven't been able to find any, so if you know of some, please tell me).

How about these? I made them from maps by Lingster and Digorig.

Here's a link to a map I'm still working on...it has several items which I downloaded from here and used.

I got an idea from those city maps posted above, so here's one combined with a set of walls from the campaign pack.

A few more variations, some better than others.
