Hi all,

A new map contest with a theme picked by our last winner: Bogie.

The theme is: Classic Dungeon

Create a dungeon old or new style where players can roam around a bit to find treasure, battle monsters, avoid traps, resue princesses, get cursed, etc.

This contest starts today and will end at the start of the last week in januari. Hopefully we get a lot of participants

I really didn't need bother counting, did I?

The winner of the first mapping contest in 2009 is Cisticola

Congrats and make sure to pick the next map contest theme.

I think I'm out this time. End of semester workload is killing me.

Too bad, I could use a creative outlet right now. . . .

Voting has started
The only thing we should wait for is Lepi's addition of shadows and raised walls if he wants to add those.

Here are my votes. I also placed comments after each so you can tell why I voted the way I did.

5pts = Entry #1 - Cisti's Classic Dungeon by Cisticola

COMMENTS: Well there's no doubt in my mind that this is ART! The overall layout gives the impression of a face/head, which just adds to the "coolness". My only problem with this entry is I can't tell how much post-work went into this, but it feels like a lot. Still this was the entry to beat and nobody did so IMHO.

4pts = Entry #2 - Bogie's Dungeon by Bogie

COMMENTS: Great collection of room shapes and the detail level is very usable (not too much, not too little)-- just about every piece is placed just how I think it should be. The addition of a "low ink" version was not only thoughtful, but it has a nice effect too.

3pts = Entry #6 - Evil People Cave by Lepi

COMMENTS: The overall concept and execution is just great, but I almost wish you didn't go back and do post-work, just to keep it "pure" DJ. Everything in this map worked for me except for the cave, I like the idea but my eyes couldn't decide where it was okay to walk and where it was too rough.

2pts = Entry #4 - Dreadful Dungeon by ProBono

COMMENTS: The level of effort that went into this entry is clear and pieces of this map are very intriguing to look at. Still there were a couple of spots that just need a little more to put it higher on my list. Keep going though, it's sooo close!

1pt* = Entry #3 - Aegean's Dungeon of Doom by Aegean

COMMENTS: I still think this one is great -- it really takes me back to the days when I first started playing with chits (we didn't have polyhedral dice!). The fact that it was actually drawn in DJ makes this a real contender too! Unfortunately the quality of the other entries makes it hard to award many points to this one -- so I have to give this *HONORABLE MENTION!

=================

All in all, very impressive entries, I wasn't disappointed or put off by any of them. This made it difficult to judge, which is a good thing!

I can't wait to see the next contest entries.

SB

#1 (5 pts) Entry #1 - Cisti's Classic Dungeon by Cisticola
           Just amazing. Not only is this map beautiful, but it is very playable. I used it already.

#2 (4 pts) Entry #5 - Classic Dungeon by Surfbored
           Neat, Clean, Classic, with Traps. Has all the elements needed to test the players.

#3 (3pts) Entry #6 - Evil People Cave by Lepi
           The new high res version with raised walls really makes this map come off the page.
           A few shadows to add some definition to the walls and the cave would have pushed it up even higher on the list.

#4 (2 pts) Entry #4 - Dreadful Dungeon by ProBono
           While not as polished as some of the maps, this one has some great details and has real potential for a game in my players future. Excellent map especially from a new member.

#5 (1pt) Entry #3 - Aegean's Dungeon of Doom by Aegean
        When I picked "Classic Dungeon" as the theme I never imagined anyone would go this retro.
        Nicely done and good for a laugh, I would have liked to see you post a second version of this map made in DJ as a before and after entry.

Great Job Everyone!!

5 points - Cisticola (entry #1)
     Exterior and Interior Great work Simple design but not totally classic.

4 points - ProBono (entry #4)
     Not much post work but the layout and the details within offer for a good game and again you have exterior and interior.

3 points - Bogie (entry #2)
     I dont know it just seemed too simple of a layout. Good work and yet just seems to be missing that spark.

2 points - Surfbored (entry #5)
     For being as simple as it is, it's probably the most classic and annoying.

1 point - Aegean (entry #3)
     Ummm

Hi,

5 points - Cisticola (entry #1) What annoys me here (as a beginner) is that there is post-Dunjinni stuff, but I don't know what is Dj and not Dj. Are those fab green and red lighting effects Dj or would I need to spend six months learning photoshop or something... At the top for completeness, art, & storyline supplied. Fabulous browseability.

4 points - Bogie (entry #2) Nearly made top as I love those bookshelves and tables. But Cisti had super tables too! These are maps you come back to and look in detail for ideas.

3 points - Surfbored (entry #5) Not as complete, but gives great ideas in respect to stairs and traps. Like the way the stairs go under the middle corridor, as well as the entrance.

2 points - Lepi (Entry #6) Love many of the details (especially around the man with chickens).

1 point - Aegean (entry #3)... but deserves six points.

These will get me rummaging through past contests...
