Hey everyone,
I bought Dundjinni a couple of years ago for an online game I was running; that eventually ended, but now I've got another game that I've got going and have found a new need for Dundjinni. So once more I return to the fold.
My problem is using custom art for character tokens. I remember that I WAS able to import custom portraits for characters when I used the program before, but I seem to have lost the knack for it. I've been searching the forum here for Token tutorials and such, but none of them seem to be helping.
Here's what I've got:
I've got the custom picture that I want saved as a 200x200 pixel .png file. I used slashdevnull's tutorial to get the properly-shaped icon with a transparent background. The actual image itself is about 150x150 with the edges cut off, and the background is transparent. I'm not sure that this is necessary (as I recall when I used this program before all I had to do was import a 200x200 pixel image and accept the slight cut-off.
Wherever I try to save these images, however, Dundjinni just won't read them. I've been using the Dundjinni\Adventure\Tokens directory. I've tried just putting them in that directory; I've tried making a folder called "Custom" or "My Art" or anything. I've tried making sub-folders called "Characters" and "Monsters" inside of those folders. But every time I load up Dundjinni it refuses to read my custom images. When I right-click the token icon on the map to try and assign it a portrait, I can get it to read the "Custom" folder and even the "Characters" and "Monsters" sub-folders, but it says there's nothing inside of them! It simply will not read the art that I want it to.
I'm kind of frustrated, because without the custom icons I want the program's of considerably less use to me. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here? Is it something to do with the art? Something to do with the folders that I'm saving it in? I've updated Dundjinni to 1.0.7, and everything else seems fine as far as I can tell.
All help is greatly appreciated!

Don't use the tokens directory. Make a folder in dundjinni/maps/fantasy/user for tokens. Make sure you use a ~properties file from an object folder.
Now, my next suggestion is going to rptools.net and using the TokenTool to create tokens, which takes a lot of the work out of what you're doing. You'll end up with a token that looks like what I've posted below with almost no work involved.

Welcome back Ravil
Not sure if this is what you want to do, but here it goes ...
Create a folder structure like this:
Dundjinni Enterprises
Dundjinni
Adventure
Tokens
Ravil
Default
Characters
Monsters
Place your tokens in the Character or Monster folder.
I picked Ravil for a name, but you can name the Ravil and Default folders any way you like.
* Open Dundjinni
* Go to Fantasy - Tokens - Character and place a Character Token.
* Right click on the token and switch to Ravil in the small window above the images. Now you will see a default background with your images (put in the Character folder of course). I don't know yet how to get another background for the tokens or if that is even possible.

Ooookay, apparently my problem was that I didn't have the "Default" folder in between "Ravil" and "Characters/Monsters". It wasn't reading the custom art until I did that, but now I appear to be able to place them. Thanks a lot!
And thanks to mercutio as well. I'll definitely look into the TokenTool for the work I'm trying to do.

You can do this, but it involves editing the TokenInfo.txt file, so if you do it, make a backup of that file first, just in case. Here's how to add a custom frame or background:
First, create your custom frame and background and save them in this location:
\Dundjinni\res\images\frames
Make sure the frame is a .png file with a transparent center. It still needs to fit within the 200x200 size constraint. You can create a separate frame or background for each alignment (good/neutral/evil).
Open up the file:
Dundjinni\res\TokenInfo.txt
Ignore the "Default Tokens" lines.
Insert the filenames for your frames & backgrounds in place of the default, like this:
Quote:
[Good Background]
Beveled   ; images/frames/ my_custom_back_good.png
[Good Frame]
Beveled   ; images/frames/ my_custom_frame_good.png
[Neutral Background]
Beveled   ; images/frames/ my_custom_back_neutral.png
[Neutral Frame]
Beveled   ; images/frames/ my_custom_frame_neutral.png
[Evil Background]
Beveled   ; images/frames/ my_custom_back_evil.png
[Evil Frame]
Beveled   ; images/frames/ my_custom_frame_evil.png |
|
|
Then save the file and relaunch DJ and your new default frames & backgrounds will be available to use

I tried RPtools and the token creation part is great. The one MAJOR drawback is that it is for on-line play only and there is no print capacity. You need to export the token to photoshop or gimp and print from there, after you remodify and adjust, at which point you might as well just start with photoshop. I complained about this to them and they were supportive but suggested I would be ultimately better served by Dundjinni. Now I am here and they suggest RPtools... I just wanted to play my darn game with tokens

Do the Dundjinni tokens print separately? I've never used them, to be honest. I always just assumed they printed out onto maps as objects, which makes them about as useful for tabletop play as RPTools. I just thought the token thing was a way to use Dundjinni as a game/adventure management program, something I've never used it for.

You can put the tokens on a bare map and print that.
