[edit 2009-07-14]

here is every pipe section to date (about 142mb total):
sewer-objects_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-2size-4way_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-2size-L_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-2size-T_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-4way_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-connectors_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-L_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-T_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-thin-4way_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-thin_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-thin-connectors_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-thin-L_01-id.zip
sewer-pipe-thin-T_01-id.zip

[/edit]

i've been working on this idea on and off for a few months now and i think i'm finally ready to start showing some stuff. the idea was to make a series of sewer pipe sections and connectors that could be combined any number of ways (like dungeon tiles) to create a sewer complex that would be unique every time. i wanted them to look like pipes (round) and have a variety of interesting items/obstacles in them. i also wanted to have a choice of wet or dry pipes.

below is a contact sheet showing a sampling of the pipes. fyi: this is at 1/5 actual size. i made them large enough to use in something like maptool where you could move character tokens around inside them.

i'll be updating this post with links to .zip files containing the actual sections and connectors over the next week, or so. due to their size, the .png files are a little large (about 1mb each) so i'll be hosting them on my own server. i'll also be posting a variety of objects that will be optimized for use inside the pipes for you to place, allowing a virtually unlimited number of combinations.

here are a few pieces so you can get an idea of the scale:

again, i want to thank everyone who contributes artwork to this site as i have used other artists' items in many places in these pieces. in particular, the sewer grates were made by futureboy (way back in 2006!). these are absolutely awesome and add a huge amount of realism to the pipes. [edit] also, dragonwolf's cracks are absolutely fantastic! [/edit]

This has a lot of potential. I love the level of detail.

I suspect you are well on your way to getting your own artpack.

Fantastic! Very atmospheric!

Wouldn't it be nice to have some water layers to place them in even more combinations?

Or PSD files, even?

Iron Dwarf - you have managed to resolve an issue I have been having even in 3D - on intersection - do you mind if I emulate it please?

ok, i'll try and answer everyone in one post:

the .zips are coming, i promise. this whole series is a work in progress, so you'll have to bear with me. btw, what does everyone think is an acceptable size (in megabytes) for a .zip? these could get pretty big pretty quick!

water layers and individual items are on the way, also. but first i want to get the .zips up. see quote #1.

heruca wrote:

normally i would (you guys know i love to share my layered files), but these are weighing in at around 60mb each! you see, i've got 1 master file for each pipe section type: 1 for straight, 1 for "T", 1 for "L" and 1 for the 4-way. i'm just hiding and showing layers for the types of items i want to show so there are a ton of layers! i'm gonna try to simplify them and flatten down some stuff. but this'll take a back seat to other things: see quotes #1 & #2.

not only do i not mind, i insist! i don't wanna get all mushy but this is one of the best online communities i've ever had the pleasure of participating in. everyone here is so encouraging and shares so freely. i'd be honored if one of my techniques appeared in your artwork. (fyi, it took me a long time to figure out the perspective thing and making it work with an adjoining pipe. i feel your pain! )

No rush, but I've been downloading so many things recently I haven't had a chance to really classify them all. A zip that I just extract into one file is just a convenience thing for me.

File size honestly doesn't affect me that much (high speed cable modem + time = just about infinite downloading ability). That said less than 100MB is just a personal preference.

Those are awesome! I'm so going to use those for an upcomming adventure I had planned!

When we get modular bits is there any chance of dirtier water and/or waist deep water?

These are absolutely fantastic. I think the perspective is spot on. I think a good download size is probably around 25MB. I've got some of my Iso terrains and stoneworks zips that are 140-160MB in size and I didn't get too many complaints.

LOVE these and see all kinds of great mods coming for them.

The only thing that kind of sticks out to me is that the bricks on each end arch toward the middle. Great work, but that sort of jumps out at me.

Love'em though!

Very good and also optical illusional too! I'd look at them and saw curved downward and then suddenly my vision saw them as 'domed'!

waiting for zip.
