I keep reading in the Help doc that you can place character/character
symbols on the map, but I have yet to locate these other than in their
respective folders. I can't seem to actually place them on the map. I can go
to the Tokens->Character drop-down menu, but the only thing there is the
generic blue Dudjinni logo that says "Character". Can anyone help me out
with this? Thanks.

Yes, you stamp down the blue logo. Then you right click on the logo on the map, and that's where you get the dialogue pop-up to change the generic logo into a character token.

Well, that's all well and good, but I can't seem to get anything to come up
with a right click. I use the little arrow, right? But when I right click on it, all
I get is a horizontal line next to the arrow; no dialogue or anything else
comes up. Is there something I'm not doing right here?

Welcome aboard Kiiz
After stamping the blue Character Token, almost any tool will select the window Mercutio is showing in his sample when you right-click on it.
If that doesn't work for you, I would like to know what Operation System you are on (XP, Vista, W7, Mac, ...) and what version of DJ you are running.
