I bet this has been discussed before but I'd like to re-open the topic, seeing as we've got some new members. I was wondering what system everyone prefers when they play a ttrpg.
I'm partial to a DnD 3.5 (or pathfinder when we have a dm for it) game myself, but I've had plenty of experience with other systems. I'm also curious to know if anyone else has tried the fairy-tale themed GRIMM system. It's pretty interesting, and very much open ended.

I only ever played in one GURPS game, but I remember loving it!

I mostly play D&D, and generally 3.5/Pathfinder, but I also
do most of my gaming via PBP. Haven't been able to get a
local group, but I do have an every-other-week MapTool game
with players in Oklahoma, MD, NY, and NJ.
I would LOVE to play some of the other systems I own
(especially Slasher Flick, ICONS, Dungeon World, and
Apocalypse World), but -- no local group...
The system I don't own which most intrigues me is the
GUMSHOE system, particularly as applied to Trail of
Cthulhu.

I've been DMing via computer since 1989. Still have two of my original players with me. I do a varient of 1st & 2nd ed AD&D. My own created world with main gawd being an old character from my table top days in the mid '80s :) World name is "Knumythia" (new-myth-ee ah!) Love using DJ for maps in a place where my players can go and look/download. My latest adventure group is now on Rpol dot net. I used to do it email. That was hard!

Woah! I had no idea I was in the presence of such vets! I'm in honored company.
Play by post and play by email seem very difficult but rewarding. I imagine with that kind of play structure there's a lot more focus on roleplaying and a lot less focus on how powerful your character can be (a big problem I have with "today's gamers".)

Holy smokes! I wish! The longest game I had was 3 years, and I think that's the longest game among my circle of friends (most of whom are DMs.)

Heh, my game on Rpol dot net has been going since 2004. Though there was a stretch in 2007 when nothing went in for 5 months due to my being in a care center cause of double pneumonia. Group just finished up an adventure with werewolfs and hidden ties to kill off their Viscount patron. Then my computer with game files went bust. Trying to compute expts and do last minute stuff before starting next adventure.
If your at all curious you can go read the story (chapters) here:
http://rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=7901&date=1343358918
Read :
Notice: Story of Knu-Mythia (group 0)
The beginning of the game starts on 'page 1' and goes up to now..chapter 147.
