There have been a number of users who have had problems with an error message suggesting an "Improper Installation". I talked to a user at Gen Con who was having this probelm, and he actually had his laptop with him. A quick look at Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs revealed that 3 different versions of Java were installed: 1.4.1, 1.4.2, and 1.5. We simply uninstalled the two non-1.4.2 versions, and Dunjinni started right up.

So, if you are having any problem with Dundjinni, please make sure that you have just one version of Java installed, and that it is 1.4.2 or later.

This is not an option for me since I am a Java developer and I need more all the JDKs that I have. Is there any other workaround for this issue? If there were a way to just tell Dundjinni which JDK to use, could that solve the problem?

I have the same problem.    I'd love to get a work around cause I am guessing that my demo time is running out. If there is no fix then I cannot buy the program   .

Thanks,

karaban

I came on looking for a fix for this problem too! I wish I could uninstall all but one of my JDKs but I need them to do testing and other junk.

Looks like a great program, I just can't use it

I am experiencing this problem as well, although all I have installed (acording to the control panel) is the java runtime environment 5.0. Should I uninstall this and install the 1.4 that I am downloading from this website?

Unless you have a specific requirement for Java 5, you should remove it for now, and install the version available from this site, yeah.

As I understand it, the development team is looking into working out compatability issues with Java 1.5 (Java 5... whatever). However, there is no timeframe for when this will get done. After all Java 5/1.5 just released a couple of weeks ago.

So, is there some sort of fix for this issue when there really seems to be no reason for it to happen?

I have only the recommended Java version installed, I used Dundjinni five minutes ago and it worked fine, but when I try to start it now, it suddenly complains about an improper installation. The only change was an addition of 5 PNG files to a map subfolder -- removing them again had no effect. This is on a system running XP Pro SP2.

On my second reinstall of Dundjinni today, so I'd really like some alternative solution... *sigh*

EDIT: Ok, it seems I "only" have to install the 1.04 update every other time I want to run Dundjinni. It's frelling annoying, but a little bit better than having to reinstall everything.

I've been fiddling around with different java versions, but this has had no effect. Dundjinni seems to run a lot faster using java 1.5, though.

I'm seeing this issue too.

Specifically I got Dundjinni at So Cal Gen Con, and am trying it on my Mac
laptop, which is running MacOS 10.3.6. When I run it, I get the "There is a
problem with the installation of Dundjinni" message, code 4, 2, 2, 4, 104.

Running "java -version" reports I'm running 1.4.2_05. Thoughts?

Westuden: Error code 4 indicates that there is a problem with the registration key matching the registered user name. Are you certain that you have entered your name exactly as it appears on the registration form?

I had a similar problem. I tried removing extra java versions - no luck. I finally solved it by deleting the Dundjinni registry entry and reinstalling.

It appears that you have something wrong with the registration code. Haven't seen this before. Check with Fluid about getting a different registration code maybe.

Which version of Windows are you running?

Is this a first-time install, or have you had Dundjinni running on your system prior to this? (That includes the demo)

Are you sure that your username and registration code are exactly what's listed either in the online store, or on the inside cover of the CD? If you're installing from CD, your name is "Retail Copy", or something like that. If you're installing from a downloaded copy, your username and reg code can be found by logging back into the online store and looking at "My Orders".

I'm running OS X, 10.3.8, with java 1.4.2, and my program just started
doing this. It normally works once after I reload the program, then will
not work on the second (and later). I don't get any error codes from the
program, but my console lists this:

Common components not loaded properly
java.lang.NullPointerException
     at talisman.rg.<init>(rg.java)
     at talisman.jb.b(jb.java)
     at talisman.jb.<init>(jb.java)
     at talisman.gb.a(gb.java)
     at v.start(v.java)
     at y.<init>(y.java)
     at talisman.cr.<init>(cr.java)
     at talisman.Talisman.main(Talisman.java)
     at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method)
     at
sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAcce ssorImpl.
java:39)
     at
sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMe thodAcce
ssorImpl.java:25)
     at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:324)
     at apple.launcher.LaunchRunner.run(LaunchRunner.java:88)
     at apple.launcher.LaunchRunner.callMain(LaunchRunner.java:50)
     at
apple.launcher.JavaApplicationLauncher.launch(JavaApplicatio nLauncher.j
ava:52)

I have no idea if that even refers to the program, but that's what comes
up.

I'm getting error code 4,2,2,4,104

I am on Mac OSX 10.3, and the 1.42 version of Java is all I
have on my computer.

This is a heck of a bug guys.

I'm not sure if this helps, but my problem may have been due to the
items. I noticed that the CSUAC (sp?) stuff I had put in had the properties
file showing up as a UNIX doc. When I replaced them with the other doc
that is in the other files, and put everything in one folder at a time, it
works. So far, I haven't had the problem again.

I don't know why the errors reported here should be occurring. My only proactive suggestion is to contact Fluid for a new registration number.

To help those encountering this problem to understand these error messages better, though --

The error report gives the following:

Code: A,B,C,D,E

Where:

A: Reason
    1 = Invalid number of arguments passed to program
    2 = Invalid launch platform
    3 = Key failed to validate
    4 = User name failed checksum comparison
    5 = Registration key is for incorrect platform
    6 = Wrong type of registration key used
    7 = Invalid SKU
    8 = Invalid version
    9 = Invalid user id
    10 = Failed platform test

B: Run Platform
    1 = Windows
    2 = Mac OSX

C: Build Platform
    1 = Windows
    2 = Mac OSX

D: SKU
    0 = Demo version
    1 = Silver (discontinued)
    2 = Gold (discontinued)
    3 = Platinum (discontinued)
    4 = New format "Unified" version

E: BUILD Version
    100 thru 104 are valid values

That revealed, it occurs to me that in some cases this will lead to more confusion than it will clear up. Some wacky exceptions occur here because of the switch from Silver/Gold/Platinum Windows/Mac delineation to the unified, platform-independent model. If you have an older key, it might be victim of a bug despite our attempts to smooth this out.
For example, Wandering Monster, it appears you have a registration key for an older version of the program. I'm not sure why; the "old" format keys should not have been given for a Mac installation (there was no mac version then). In any case, I'd see about getting a new key.

Badger, your problem isn't registration. The crash you are getting indicates that something is mucked up or inaccessible for some reason in your resource directories. The "Map" folder and the "res" folder contain critical items that must be available (esp. the 'res' folder). If you've customized any files here, there may be errors in them. Worst case, backup, reinstall, and try again.

Hope this is helpful.

Cecil Solomon's User-Art Conformity (project).
Here's a link http://www.gmsparlor.com/mapping/csuac.html

It's a User-art orginization system so that you can share a .dja file , since without it we'd put our user-art wherever we dang well wanted it (Now we put it where Cecil wants it ) and get those annoying [?]-labels everywhere...more information (explained better) is available at the site linked abouve.
