I decided to try my hand at creating a few items and am posting them up for critique. I am using these in various temples of Pharasma from the Pathfinder setting - a stone church pew and a black stone dais and white marble temple. Textures from CGTextures and all items made in Paint.NET.
I feel like I got the sense of depth right on the pew but the altar seems a little flat.
Feel free to use these images however you want. I'm a novice at best, and I'm here to share!

Hi Xaratherus,
Some thoughts...
Here played with a heavier drop shadow (maybe too much now?) with a slight offset,
and to make it grittier or some such thing used Effects\Photo\Sharpen,
and Menu\Effects\Tools \Smudge to round the sharp corners very slightly...
Playing with the Hue, magically colours appear
Paint Menu\Adjustments\Hue Saturation
The second is fine anyway, but got to tinker...
...and a big sharpen...
...When done, also noted a couple of whitish score
marks in the original. So copied little irregular bits
(lasso select) and put them over one of the scores.
Named it "Pharasma_Pew_Xa_PB.png", to give it your tag and that PB modified it. (You choose your tag.)
Note if you can't see these menu items in Paint.Net, they are free on the Paint.Net forums.
More please!

Awesome, ProBono - I need to remember to round my corners. :) And I love the sharpen on the pew.
In regards to the altar: I found a plugin for Paint.NET to add visual depth to an item, so I'm going to play around with it tonight and see how it looks/works. However, it looks like it might do it through forced perspective of angle so it might not do it for a 'flat' map.
I have one other item that I 'made' for the map - an old-fashioned sewing machine, which I made using a photo I took at an antique store and using one of the fine tables from the forums here. ;) I'll post it up tonight.
