Bogie, when you're snapping pictures in stores, do you ever get weird looks from people, or have any problems with the employees getting upset and asking you what you're doing?

Occasionally, but mostly it's my wife giving me that "he's doing it again look" 
In some stores I ask. In one artsy fartsy store I was rudely told "No Photos"!
I read a post somewhere that unless the store has a sign at the entrance that says "no photos" you are not breaking any rules. It went on to explain that if copyrighted art is on display anyone can photograph it, The photo is now a new piece of art created by me and I can do what I want with it.
Now, I have no idea if this is true, and have no intention of going around getting anyone upset. But I see no reason why I can't take a picture of a rug at walmart or an old chair in a flea market. I just try to be discrete. The camera in my phone is less obvious than an SLR on a strap.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing, which is why I was wondering. Just don't want to get into into any unpleasant confrontations with angry or rude employees.
I hadn't thought about using a phone camera. That's a good idea!

Great items Bogieness..... 
Taking pics in stores is legitimate...if a private property is open to the public (like a restaurant, retail store, tourist areas, etc) you are allowed to take photographs and video unless it is expressly posted somewhere on the premise that you can't.....
