Saw an article in wikipedia about mushrooms that glow in the dark and thought what a great thing to have for putting in forests, jungle or dungeons! Light the way to danger. :) Perhaps someone here could make up a bunch, with different glow colors?

read up on them on wiki, just type in the mushroom name: Mycena chlorophos (can't remember if the last word has more letters. :(

I had a go at making some. If you guys like them, I could do some other colours as well. Was also thinking some versions with glowing spots would look kinda cool too.

Those are cool, and ones with glowing spots would be pretty
cool as well.

Very nice.

Though when I first looked at them they looked like nuked sand dollars (sea creature). :) They need a tiny bit of elevation in the center I think and, perhaps, glow on the outside like a lighting effect. The black shadow effect looks off. Just my opinion. :) And I think, even with no changes, different colors would be great. Blue, lavender, purple, orange?? What colors does biolumescence (sp?) come in?

edit: Never mind, I found the answer in Wikipedia:

Quote:
Bioluminescence is a form of luminescence, or "cold light" emission; less than 20% of the light generates thermal radiation. It should not be confused with fluorescence, phosphorescence or refraction of light.

Ninety percent of deep-sea marine life are estimated to produce bioluminescence in one form or another. Most marine light-emission belongs in the blue and green light spectrum, the wavelengths that can transmit through the seawater most easily. However, certain loose-jawed fishes emit red and infrared light and the genus Tomopteris emits yellow bioluminescence.

Non-marine bioluminescence is less widely distributed, but a larger variety in colours is seen. The two best-known forms of land bioluminescence are fireflies and glow worms. Other insects, insect larvae, annelids, arachnids and even species of fungi have been noted to possess bioluminescent abilities.

Some forms of bioluminescence are brighter (or exist only) at night, following a circadian rhythm.

Now I just need an anthropomorphic caterpillar and a hookah.

Neyjour, or somebody..Could you make some of those biolum. mushrooms something like the pic below? I have the Gimp program but don't know how to make shadows or shadows in colors. I dug up one of Kepli's glowing candles and popped it on top to show what I mean. The glow is a bit large though. I thought it should be closer in. Greens or blues would be great.

Here's a few. In Photoshop I erased the shadow, then used "Outer Glow" and chose the color green and then played with the size till it seemed about right.

Nice mods Bogie, thanks.

I had been working on some circular spots, but I really like the irregular ones you did on that second one. I've also been trying to give them a bit more depth, so they don't look quite so flat. Here's what I've come up with:

I'm doing the same with the rest, and also tinkering with some other colours as well. I'm a bit busy at the moment, so it's slow going (a few minutes here and there when I get the time) but I'll hopefully have a full set finished in a few days. Not sure if they can still be classified as "bioluminescent" now, so I'm just going to call them "Fantasy Fungi".

Bogie, thanks to the max! :) Just the way I wanted them. They will look so cool in a sewer, jungle, underground cave system and more. Heh, in fact I have a forest scene as a desktop pic and putting a few at the bottom of the screen (where the title doesn't show up) makes it soooo errie! I'll see if I can pop up a little jpg later today.

edit: here's a small section of my desktop pic.

Kinda fuzzy but you get the idea.
