Hi Folks,
Having played Greyhawk to death, I thought it was time to create a world I have been wanting to do for a long time. Well, ever since I sat one day watching oil swirl around in a puddle of water & thought that would make an interesting world.
First doodle:
OK, not bad, but lets give it a bit of detail:
Now, lets give it some life, still only a low-res map, but its a start:
 The main premise of this world is its a series of islands, radiating from a central hub, not in a sea of water, but islands of towering rock sitting above an endless chasm shrouded in mist.
I have made it with deserts in the south, moving north into tropics, temperate climes, then up into the north and islands covered in snow & ice.
The background of this world, is long ago, it was ruled by a demon, a God, who resided in the centre of this world, in an ancient citadel. He was defeated & a great civilisation arose which brought this fractured world together through culture & trade. This Adventure would begin a thousand years after this civilisation faded into memory, but travelling this land is not easy, portals were once used to travel the great distances between islands, most are now lost & destroyed, but some however remain well hidden......

Start of my first 'Island' map. This is the beginning of this adventure. An Island far away from the action...its actually the little Island bottom left on the world map.
WIP: not given it a name yet....
Got to add mountains & hills yet........long way to go...

Are you using one of the tutorials from CG? I only ask
because I've be a fan of RobA's GIMP tutorial for campaign
mapping for awhile, and have run through it fairly
recently. The fractalization of the islands and the
mountain bump-mapping definitely look like it to me.
