This was an experiment in using photorealistic backgrounds in a map.

        ------------------ ------ --------------------------------------------------------

Several days from the nearest town this mountain village started as settlers building some huts in a resource rich area. The small huts in the north were the original settlement. A natural cave system became a small mine and a clay pit. There is a logging and fishing camp on the west side.

As more settlers arrived and bridges were built to traverse the streams it became easier for travelers to cross than the ford down the way. With the trail increasingly warn heading directly through their settlement a better road was built. The settlers then built an inn to house weary travelers and increase revinue. A small farm area was then created along with a cow pasture, chicken coop, and pig pen.

Thank you both.

Besides the hundreds of hours I have spent gathering and organizing objects it took me about 25 hours not including the background photo shoot.

Im trying to move to using the on screen mapping instead of minis and scenery. I used to build them but it would take me way too long to do. I could probably build 2 of the buildings on this map in that long.

As for the size I also have always had issues with only being able to go so far to the edge of the map on the table. I started with only about a sixth the size and then said well its sort of tight. I can only get these huts on here. So I added another background photo... Then another oh and I want to add a farm...

This could be a great home base for the first few levels of a campaign.

And well I figure for my first posting go big or go home.
Just wish I could get the thumbnail to work.

Something this big, it might be worth using a smaller image you can pull up to show the whole diorama (the campaign map) & then for game play splitting the map into manageable maps to play on.....

Excellent map though, you've started big!
