Hi folks, Start of Part 2 - 'Through the Demon's Mouth'.

Quick rundown of scenario:

The adventure revolves around a subterranean temple carved into a high cliff overlooking a dead lake. Inside the temple are four portals……

I am using this adventure to explore the PCs origins. They have all come up with detailed backgrounds to their characters. In Part 1 I explored the Paladin, who is an orphan, & at the end of the adventure he learned that his long time mentor served his dead father & that he is probably the last of his order. He is also being hunted...

In this adventure:
The elf wizard, adopted & always second to his half brother, has to confront the betrayer;
The elf ranger, a wanderer with no people, finds there may be a place called home; and
The dwarf fighter, exiled for murder, has to make a choice………

The maps will be:

The Shrine of Demogorgon
Worlds End & Tower of the Hand (Portal 1)
Deserts of The Howling & the Obsidian (Portal 2)
Snowed capped mountain of Danegar (Portal 3)
A wine cellar in the village of Jackal Claw (Portal 4)

This is going to be quite ambitious…..but it will be fun…..

The PCs teleport to a wilderness area high on a cliff overlooking a dead lake. A statue of Cuthbert guards a bridge.....

A womens screams, from across the bridge, startling the PCs. On crossing, the screams can still be heard but distant......& then they see the pit......

'Well lets go down'....'what!?'...'give me the rope'...So tying the rope to the bridge the PCs go down into the pit. Reaching the floor the rope falls down on their heads....'Guys this hasn't come loose, its been cut!'.....They get the feeling they have just entered a trap & they have & she's very hungry.......

After defeating a very hungry monstrous spider, the PCs recover a key that opens the great vault door. They peer into the darkness & a pair of glowing eyes look back at them! The PCs use their rope to lower themselves down into the darkness. Here they find a statue depicting Demogorgon, an anvil & 4 inactive portals. On the anvil is a hammer (a portal key) & a shroud with glowing eyes & mouth. Touching the hammer will activate the magic within the shroud & summon a few Manes (Lesser demons).....

I really like the pit scene.

I like the St. Cuthbert scene too, but cannot be as generalized as the pit.

Thanks.

Hi Rotten, these are from my current campaign, so there not as generalised. I have made & collected so many maps that I just need to map what's important in my game. I will be doing some that I don't have, such as desert...also I'm in the process of doing some more of my city store maps....

The PCs use one of the active portals to teleport to a dungeon in the Tower of the Hand. Here they find the dead body of the great wizard Azacanaster. Nearby is his squire, who tells the PCs of the betrayal of Azacanaster's apprentice Felzhor (The Elf PCs half brother). He has made a pact with a dark demon & has killed the great wizard. Unfortunately he has trapped himself in the tower in doing so, as he does not possess the knowledge to activate the portal to get him across the chasm that seperates the tower from the rest of the land. The PCs will have to overcome more than Felzhor on their travel up into the tower, but there is only one thing on the PCs wizard's mind....he has a debt to settle......

Very nice. I like the post where you showed how you do this.

Can you tell me if Adobe Photoshop elements is a useful program for creating maps like this or tokens?

My wife bought it to work with photographs, but I have access to it. Wondering what I can do with it?

I've used Photoshop Elements. It is better for photo
touchups than anything else, but you can download the GIMP
for free, and it's an excellent program with a lot of
power.

Edit: That said, you can do object creation in the version
of Photoshop Elements I have (but I have an older version
that came with my Bamboo Fun tablet).

Cisticola - that's very cool. Like Rotten, I really
appreciated the step-by-step you posted.

Hi Rotten,
Photo Shop (I use Gimp which is freeware) are great for manipulating imgages & so I never really create anything within this type of software. Sayiing that, you can use the software, like DJ, to create a map out of ready made art, objects, photos, textures etc.

Here is a list of the software I use:

DJ - To do quick map layouts & all walls (it is very good at this);
Ink space (Equivalent to Illustrator) - Drawn tokens & objects (I cannot for the life of me use 3d software!);
Bryce - Textures & landscapes
Gimp - Bringing together map elements & lighting & shading; &
Pait.net - Good at resizing art & will save it in any format you wish.

Ink space, Gimp & Paint.net are all freeware
Bryce is currently free on special offer, which comes with Daz a 3d programme.

Hi Merc,

Glad that was popular, did it as bit of fun.

Thinking of doing a tut on the process of creating a map in Gimp (might be of interest to Rotten), from creating walls in DJ, exporting into Gimp, wall shadows, creating floors, placing objects into the map, & finally lighting & shadows....
