Greetings all,

Long time lurker, first time poster

I'm working on a print and play skirmish-level game set in a post-apocalyptic near future. The game uses a modular "battlemap" consisting of nine tiles. We're in the playtesting phase of the game, and I've done a good bit of work on the tiles. I thought I'd share a couple here. If there is interest, I can post all of them in higher resolution. I can also upload the images without the colored lines and symbols, which designate terrain type. Each of the tiles has either concrete or asphalt along the edges, so they can be rotated and placed alongside the other tiles for tons of different battlemap configurations. I have the first set of 18 tiles complete for this theme and I'm working on some other themes.

Thanks,
David Thompson

Great 1st post, and welcome!

These are really wonderful looking tiles. I'd love to see more!

Very good use of some of the ground cover shadows. I like the look of these a lot.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I have uploaded low res versions of all the tiles to a gallery on the game's website here: http://www.skirmishtactics.com/gamescapes/

I also have a .pdf with the full res print version of the files: http://skirmishtactics.com/Streets_of_Ruin.pdf

I can put together a .zip of the individual tiles if you guys want. If I do that, would you prefer the tiles with or without the colored dashed lines and terrain type symbols? You guys will recognize some of your handiwork!

By the way, I used a "colorblind friendly" color palette for the lines, so that's why the color choices might seem a bit strange. I'd love to hear reviews on how you all think the approach I'm using for designating the terrain type squares with the colored dashed lines and symbols might affect the gameplay, keeping in mind it's a skirmish board game. Can you think of a better approach?

Thanks,
David Thompson

Hi GunTheory and Welcome to the forums!

Quick links to...
Link to Skirmish Tactics Tiles(pdf) ...HERE...
Skirmish Tactics Rules (pdf) ...HERE...

You might like to consider making the Gamescapes terrain symbols ...Symbols HERE... available to for use as .png overlays. Existing tilesets, such as caves, bunkers and so on, might then be quickly available to your players as extras... {See some existing sets in the Tiles section of the Dj forums.}

On the symbols, being able to see the terrain type (colour edges as you have) while a figure is standing on top of it, without constantly lifting the figures to see, is gameplay friendly.

Looking forward to more!

ProBono,

I've compiled the terrain square symbols for difficult, elevated, water, and blocking terrain into this zip:

D1Z_Skirmish_Tactics_Terrain_Symbols.zip

I just realized this post might be better for the tiles section. I guess that's really what I'm doing, right? Sorry for putting this post in the wrong place...I'm just the new guy!

If you guys want me to post the rest of the tiles here, just let me know what everyone prefers. I can do web res, print res, with or without terrain symbols and borders.

By the way, I playtest the game with these tiles using Roll20.net. It works amazingly well.

This tile set was suppose to represent a generic post-apoc cityscape. I've got a few other ideas...either a abandoned military facility, some ruins in the countryside, or a weird subterranean biosphere for one of the stranger factions in the game. Do you guys have a preference for what you'd like to see?

Thanks for the reviews and kind words, guys. It helps motivate me.

Hi again GunTheory,

It's up to Admin wether to move it to the Tiles forum. Suppose optimally, tilesets with and without
symbols to allow for use in other systems, or maybe link to them on your site would suffice.

Note: Can we assume they are "personnal use only" as opposed to "commercial"(?)

Note: you can rename the thread by editing the first post. Perhaps "Skirmish Tactics Tile Set", or the
likes, might make it stand out more. It looks like there'll be many more (hopefully!).

I can move this thread to the Tiles Forum if you'd like me to, but they are fine here as well.

Thanks, Bogie, we can just leave the thread here.

ProBono, good call. I renamed the thread, and I'll just keep all my future tiles in this thread. They're personal use only, since I hope to actually release the game at some point. However, if someone had a specific commercial project they wanted to use them with, I'd probably be cool with that...just ask!
