Hi all, this is my first post here and I just want to
say: this is a really cool place and you guys are doing
some great stuff ;)
I've been using a lot of the forum's resources for making
maps for a d&d campaign I am running.

Some maps are adaptations (although loose) from d&d
adventures/books, so I'll try to avoid them. When I
started off, I didn't really pay attention to copyright
as it was solely for personal use.
However, since I decided to post some of my work, I've
backtracked my steps and hopefully have everything
accounted for.

I'm still pretty new at this so any feedback you can
provide will be really welcome!

So, to start off, here is a night encounter map for the
High Forest. I couldn't find any trees big enough for
what I needed, so I thought I'd make the scene as though
looking through the forest canopy. (The eyes in the
shadows are campaign related ;))

It's made in photoshop. Textures are from
http://texturelib.com/ and
http://www.cgtextures.com/index.php.

Chrome does not work with the uploader. Don't know why. It
just doesn't. I think FireFox works, and I know IE does, so
if you have either of those browsers, try it.

As for linking urls, the problem is Chrome adds hard
returns when you get to the edge of the bounding box for
posts. The easiest thing to do is pull the bottom right
corner of the box and widen it out.

What she said! I'm really impressed. I still can't make
maps that have the same atmosphere.

Wow, thanks!
I also like how it turned out

Here is something that's supposed to be a shrine to Malar, but can be anything similar I guess.
I try to avoid isometric objects, but I'm happy how it turned out. (It's cut from a much bigger map.)

The main chamber of a red dragon lair. The hole is a shaft of an extinct volcano. Some details don't really show when it's scaled down to this size :/

Detail of a moat from a much larger map. Won't post more because it's an adaptation of a map from a d&d book.

I really like the cave. And I echo Bogie's sentiment with the moat. The volcano textures are also really nice.

Thanks again!

Since I'd like to contribute something as well and not just showcase, here is the hoard as a separate object:
ABZ_Hoard.zip

hope you like. among other things I'm not sure if you would like something...
most objects are from this forum and textures are also not mine - if a little edited...

Awesome maps! Love your style. I can't wait to see more!

The dark, spooky/creepy ones are my fave. They have such great atmosphere!

Hi all, here's something new I've been working on. 2 things actually - making a map with a forest stream and playing with weather effects.
It's still a wip, but i wanted to share it already :)

What i can't seem to find is suitable big trees. I want a top-down view of a big tree trunk with a lot of roots. Everything I find is too isometric :/

The rain effect works really well. The stream seems pretty
dry. I'm assuming that's deliberate, because it has a nice
appearance.

Wow! Looks fantastic so far!! Really, really nice job on the textures and vegetation.

Like mercutio said, it looks like a dry riverbed to me as well. Is it supposed to be? If so, you could do before and after versions, with a fast flowing river after the flood.

The rain looks great, but it doesn't seem to be showing up in the center of the river. Does it actually cover the entire map, or is it just not showing up because of the light colour of the riverbed rocks?

Only other suggestion I can give is to maybe bump up the contrast a bit. As it is now, the colours look a little bit washed out.

Looking forward to seeing more!!

Thanks for the comments! Glad you like it.
The relatively dry stream is deliberate :)
But I guess I could do a higher water level as well...

I plan to add more vegetation, moss covered logs etc.

I left kind of a hole in the centre where there is no
rain.
But looking at it again, I'll probably cover the whole
map.
And the washed out colour is because I added a layer of
mist, that accompanies rain. I'll see what I can do about
that, too. Thanks for the feedback!

I like it too. However the dry stream bed looks too dry. No patches of wetness from the rain, unless for some reason the rain isn't raining there. Magic dry spell?

Heh, just a few faint puddles or damp patches would be fine. After all it just started to rain, right?
I only made my statement cause we haven't had any rain for almost a month and a half where I live and it was starting to rain finally. I was looking out my window to the long, grey cement driveway and saw small patches of dampness.
Shrug. :)

I don't know if anyone pointed out, but that river looks...

I kid, I jest.

Looks great so far, rain and mist are hard to come by and hard to do. Well done.

Thanks!
I've made some changes that you pointed out, but haven't
had a lot of time lately.
Still struggling with finding the right trees, but I may be
onto something... combining elements from different sources
into a single tree.
Again, if someone has some suggestions for this - they
would be very welcome.
