Things to keep in mind:

First:
I'm certainly no professional mapper. In fact, before this attempt all I did was butcher images on GIMP. However, I recently noted several (very good) oldbies on here speaking highly of the Bryce program, and after giving it a search I discovered it is (or at least was, as of 3 days ago) on sale.

Second:
Having served in the military, the horrendous layout you're about to witness made me cringe pretty horribly. However, it fits the backstory. A bunch of post-apocalyptic farmers were forced out of their home after a failed attempt to rebuff marauders, packed up what they could on some buckboards, and dug in not far off to tend to their wounded. I figured it would make sense that their knowledge of entrenchments would be limited at best.

Third:
Bryce has a far higher learning curve than I ever anticipated. It is especially hard to do top-downs, so kudos to those of you who've perfected it!

Thank goodness for youtube. Anyway, I made it in Bryce (with many, many, many retries) then took it to gimp for some shading and lighting shenanigans (making the 'spoilage' stand out, etc). After, I took it to Fractal Mapper (because I sadly do not have a functional Dundjinni) and.. back to gimp to attempt to pretty it up. Enough stalling!

Here lies my first map submission to anywhere... ever. Don't feel the need to be kind, though. Criticism promotes progression, and pain retains.

Good layout, but it is hard to say much else because the image is so small.

Usually we work at 1 inch = 5 feet for battlemaps.
The forums allow posting jpeg's up to 1 MB and Zip files up to 2 MB.

Looks like it has some nice details, just too small to make out.

I was afraid of that! I shrunk it down and ah.. I... I sort of saved over it in that size.    I realized that this morning. It was made with a grid so my players could go into it. Humorously enough, now I have to re-remake it! That's okay. We can rebuild it... We have the technology.

Hard as I try, I cannot successfully replicate Cisticola's masterwork technique from this thread:

http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=10880&KW =bryce&PN=0&TPN=2

After nearly 16 hours trying to figure it out I've determined that it's pure sorcery.    I yield... But some day I will be as good as ya'all.

You have set a high standard, Cisticola is a real artist who knows his programs.

Don't be modest. I've seen a lot of your work, and it's definitely professional level. You're certainly a real artist.

Addendum: But that definitely makes me feel a lot better about falling short as hard as I did in the last attempts.

There are artists and people knowing how to use
programs.
And then are those who have both ...

Personally, I know how to use Dundjinni and Photoshop
and a bit of Vue. No real artistic talent unfortunately
