It snowed here a couple days ago so of course I ran out and started taking pictures...

Two sets of ground tiles (download the zip files):

Plants covered in snow. These have feathered edges so they blend into the snow texture above. They might work on other snow, or maybe you'd have to adjust the color.

And a couple random bits:

Jdale,
These are wonderful images! Thank-you. They will be useful.

By the way, if you see anything useful on my reference photo pages, please let me know the file names you're interested in. I can email you the original pictures (4 meg camera--much better than what's posted on the site).

Cecil,
I never really paid much attention before where your at..Where in Germany..I was stationed in Aschaffenburg in 1986-1989..

I would love to come back someday. I would love to see the old " East " German area, since it was still off limits to Americans when I was there.

Fantastic Pictures by the way

I'm currently in the Hohenfels area. I was in Berlin during part of the time you were over here (88-91: back when I still wore the green suit). Interesting times.

Make sure you drop me a line if you can make it over here. We keep an extra room for visitors.

Hmmm... the ones that look like the most fun are the top-down one of the steps in Eggersberg (100_1609.jpg), the pit with the grate on top in Essing (100_1794.jpg), the steps at Fellsmassive (100_1714.jpg, 100_1715.jpg), and the groundcover at Reidenberg (100_1638.jpg through 100_1642.jpg)

Good pictures for extracting textures and objects are hard to get unless that is what you set out to do... typically I am holding my camera so I can't see what it's taking, and sometimes have to do a couple tries to get the whole object. Then you want even lighting, so gray overcast conditions but not so dark the flash comes on. Kind of blah conditions for normal scenic shots, where dramatic lighting adds something. And for a tileset you want a bunch of pictures of different but very similar areas.

Those are great pictures, though, wish I had such nice castles next door!

Here are a few more snow-covered plants to round out the set:

And another, larger pool:
