The reflection technique is great, but the only problem I'm seeing is that the view is a straight down view. The water would reflect clouds, stars, the sun, etc. The reflections as given in the example would be from looking across the surface of the water from the other side of the river.
However, if a rather tall structure, such as a parapet, was close enough to the water's edge, unless you're standing absolutely over the top of the wall, you would have a small amount of reflection of its top section in the water.
At least that is my observation whether it is right or wrong.

You are totally right Artwork ... but we like to play with shadows and light a bit, even if they don't actually would be natural
Tall structures (pillars, trees, etc) sometimes get a perspective shadow (slightly) to indicate height, but that doesn't mean it's actually right (in the top-down sense).
Being able to portray height with just top-down shadows would be great, but often not good enough imo

I see your point, Kepli. I just figured the water reflections could be retracted a bit into the bank to give a better result. For example, the rock that was used in the picture in this thread, if the reflected rock was cut in half or quarter then pushed up against the bank, it would give a more realistic angle and still give the result of reflection.
