I'm not to saavy with these graphics programs, but after reading the posts about doing an overhead projector for battle maps, I'm thinking about giving it a try, is there an easy way to do a mask overylay on a finished DJ map? I have photoshop and would like to use the eraser tool to reveal the map as the players discover different areas, is there some way to do this just using DJ that won't interfere with the finished map?
I'm just looking for an easy way out from transfering files all over the place.

Dundjinni does not have a built in masking tool. I'm not sure it would make a lot of sense to build one in either as Dundjinni doesn't really display images on a screen in a size and quality suitable for gaming. This really is the domain of a 3rd party or at least external appication.
Dundjinni forum member Graveyboat created a simple masking application called MapView using JavaScript and HTML to mask and view maps but it requires some investment up fron to mask appropriate areas and does not cater to issues like light radius. Its free and easy to use though - just a bit time consuming to set up. Search these forums for a link.
I think you might be better served investigating one of online RPG apps like ScreenMonkey unless you want to get developing a masking app yourself? Dundjinni DJA files contain reasonably simple data but I think it would be a mess of work to create a masking app that recognised walls and supported line of sight and light radius. It would be very cool and useful for those with projectors.

In photoshop, but a layer of black over the layer with the map. When you're ready to reveal more to your players do the following:
1. turn off the projector or tv or have your players turn away
2. lower the opacity of the black layer
3. erase the portion you want to reveal
4. increase the opacity of the black layer
5. turn on your projector/tv/tell players they can look now

Unless you have a dedicated setup for projection/whatever, all of this seems like an awful lot of extra work. I really enjoy being able to just slap down a printed map on the table and get the scene rolling. I suppose that if I were playing online, I'd like something like ScreenMonkey, kloogeworks, etc. But, to each their own.

This takes only a few seconds to do and uses a lot less ink than printing a map that I'll use for half an hour and never use again. It works great on scanned or digital maps that were precreated, too.

I tested it in Photoshop with two layers of black. One with 50% opacity and the other with 80%. When both are active you see nothing. Deactivate the 80% version (click the eye for that layer) and erase from the 50% layer what you want you players to see. Activate the 80% layer again and do the same.
You have two layers to erase from, but don't have to change the opacity (and I don't know how do that at this moment )

at the top of the Layer panel, there's a % of Opacity. just select the layer, click the down arrow next to Opacity, and drag the slider.

No problem, Kepli. Glad I could help :)
As an aside, I decided to use scanned iamges of the maps from Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil and use this setup with a TV for revealing portions to the players as they explore. This is much easier than recreating the maps in Dundjinni. I might make some tokens to put in and move around instead of miniatures on a mat. :)
