Hi folks!

I'm beginning to dive into DJ to so the map of a village. However, the village is walled like the old west forts, and made out of logs with carved points on the top.

Has anyone done anything like this? I haven't come across it on the board or any of the art packs... (Don't even see a walls option in the Campaign or Village packs.. )

Hi Arknight,

As far as I can remember there is a picket barricade (and an example), but that might not be the look you are going for. A while back someone made a map with a palisade and I asked how he had done that. Here is the post.

I don't think there is a generic wall yet ... (someone must feel challenged now )

Is this what you are looking for?

I couldn't get them to work as walls but they work as an object. Maybe someone else can get them to work as wall.

If they work, let me know, easy to make.

Nice work Blu (or do you prefer Blud, or ...?).
I see a lot of possibilities for these ...

Sorry to carp blu, but we are more likely to be looking at the end of logs (i.e. bark surround, natural wood middle) than 'wood' textures. They could of course be pointed. This seems an odd ommission until one realises how difficult they might be to pull off.

I've seen both styles. For long-term use, the sides would be shaved and treated and look very much like the pointed ends. But I'm not sure how recent of a development that is.

I've also seen untreated lumber used as building material, with bark still on. It would be much harder to create from an artistic point of view (although I believe that r-kelleg did an amazing example of it that way--may have to look into it when I have a bit more time).

In any case bludragn, these are very nice additions. Just perhaps not the only variety possible.

I think these are great, but I would suggest doing a set of your post-and-crossmember fencing with only one post. that makes it easier to do a longer set of fencing without having to perfectly overlay one post over the post of the other section of fence. It would also allow the fence to be "nailed" to the side of a structure such as a house or barn.

Just a suggestion to make the fencing even more useful.

Or the metal fence that came with one of the User Art packs (I did not get the original download as I am too new to the boards

It is just a nice way to make the objects more flexible.

Besides, I read this thread first

These are greater. They give a real good just-cut-still-bark feel. I love the branch. Very nice.

Welcome aboard.

Falcon, you happen to still be browsing the forums? I'd like to get the original files for these if possible for some more objects. If not, I'll just do a little Photoshopin'...

Thanks,

I made them for my Middle Earth campaign.

And here is the ZIP

Those are terrific Venger. Did you take the pictures of the logs yourself? Could we get a few individual logs for around the campfire?

I will post the individual log sections as a ZIP when I get home this eve.

I can zip the PSD if anyone wants it with the individual logs too. Let me know

I found photos of stacks of logs "end on" on the internet and cropped some of the better looking ones to make this, then I matched their color tones and cobbled this togehter

These are new looking, but I also want to make some weathered ones too when I get a chance.

These are great! Individual 'logs' would be nice. They could then be used for a higgly-pigggly strewn wood pile. :)

I agree. I like it very much, even though it adds perspective that is not top-down
What about posting the shadow as a separate item, so we can put it where we like when we rotate the pallisades?

Here is the PSD with all the individual log pieces.

C95_PSD_Pallisade_section.zip

Soon as I can get more time I will extract the individual logs and post them in a ZIP

I like the shadows, gives them a sense of height

Thanks for the PSD file.

Here's a mod, with sharpened points on the logs and a more standard (directionless) dropshadow.
