In this example I start with snap-to-grid on Center.
Draw a curved line.
Draw the opposite line.
Set snap-to-grid to Vertice and use a 5-foot eraser to remove the two ends.
Result.
Now place the two shadows. Don't worry about the exact size, we will do that later.
Say this is part of your wall (same texture) and the arch should go in the middle.
Set snap-to-grid back to Center.
When the arch (plus shadows) is placed on the wall, they merge. Now you might want to resize and/or move the shadows. I resized them to 90% and moved them a little more away from eachother.
DONE!

Really outstanding. I've had several maps where I needed arches and there was just no reasonable way to do it.. thanks a ton :)

Simple and elegant.
I suppose one could use it single sided for ramps?

That is a very cool effect. But could you expand on the bit where you say - place the shadows..
Where have these shadows come from and how did you get them to fit so neatly onto the arch without overhang? Or am I missing something elementary?

Uhm, I didn't mention where I got the shadows, did I. I will post them in the Fantasy Art thread. Just resize them in DJ to fit you arch.
