I was given a great suggestion: Post a sticky topic with links to the various excellent tutorials that have been popping up on these forums lately. This should make it easier for newcomers to the Dundjinni community to quickly find all of the great tips and resources that all of us "old timers" take for granted. So, this thread is for exactly that.

Please post only your tutorial's name, an optional brief description, and a link to the tutorial.

Please refrain from discussion in this thread.

Feel free to link new tutorials here, as well as any old ones.

Using transparent walls for elevation

This tutorial shows how you can use a transparent wall without the shadows on a mix of floor tiles, to create stuff like streambeds or lakes.
When using different floors as walls, they won't fit together like floors do.

Not in the forums but hopefully also of use to people... my website has tutorials on

Making Tile Sets
Making Objects (especially how to separate them from the background of a source image)
Taking Photographs for use with Dundjinni

Emphasis on Paint Shop Pro but the concepts may be useful to people using other graphics programs too.

The link is http://www.madreporite.com/rpg/rpg.htm

(Edit: updated links)

This is a relatively advanced technique to make your map appear high above the treetops, looking down a multi level building, or traversing a cave of lava.

How to create transparent backgrounds using The GIMP
Taken from the I'd create .png files myself but... thread:
For those with GIMP or without an art program.

First, google The GIMP--it's a free art program, very nice and high quality. Don't forget to get it AND it's enviroment. Version 2.2.4 works for me. (Also, make sure you found GIMP for Windows, or whatever your OS is, and not vice versa.)

OK, now that you have GIMP, open it up and bring in the object that you want to PING-ize, otherwise this tutorial's going to look likegobbledegook. Go to Layer in the menu bar on top, then choose Transparency and Add Alpha Channel. Now, use the "Magic Wand"/Select Continuous Regions tool (top row, third from right on the tools select thingy, main program) to select all the white, or whatever color stuff you want to get rid of. Click Edit on the top toolbar, then select Cut to get rid of the selected area. Fiddle with it to your liking. Then, when you're happy with it, click Save As, then Select File Type (by Extension) and choose PING, then OK, you're DONE! That's it! (I'd add pictures but I'm way too lazy--it'll make more sense when you have GIMP up in front of you. Trust me.)
