I am curious why they were not done as cover with the usual names like appletree_BLU-a.png rather than appletree1_BLU.png? Would it not be easier to lay out an entire orchard using the former rather than the latter?

Well, you get different people like me that have a dir for every little different category. I use to do that but my cover dir got way too big. Clicking to find took longer then drawing.

That's fine... I do the same.

Just copy the properties file from a cover directory into your tree directory, and DJ will treat the images as cover. Then you can use the -<x> suffix on the file names to group them together.
