Anyone care to take a stab at some Sci-fi Ruins? Like a the game Fallout, but more futuristic?

Do a search for "Modern Industrial" and you'll find all the stuff I've done so far. Best I've can offer so far. What are you looking for, exactly? Space Hulk kind of stuff, or more like Quake?

BTW: I love Fallout, too.

Actually, looking for more of a Star Warsy feel.

Fall out, Space Hulk are fine too.

I'm looking to do a "Ruined Coruscant" map. A map of that city planet right after the Vong destroyed it with thier bio-weapons, turning it into a desttroyed city that "fell into the swamp" look. Lots of crumbled buildings, vines, overgrowth, concrete, neon, twisted girders, etc.

like a bomb went off in a major world city and then no one cleaned up. Mother Earth took the city back, similar to "Logan's Run"

Yea. top-down stuff.   Just like a lot of your really cool stuff. I just did a map that I'll showcase soon that has either original SR stuff, or SR stuff I've altered... :)

All but the two ships.

I'll get a couple samples going and see what we can come up with.

Ok, here's a sample of what I was thinking. I used Vue 5 Esprit, took a freebie sci-fi building I got from somewhere, and added a decayed building texture. This is a low-res (72dpi) jpg render.

Here are a couple more, the second is from the Dystopia buildings available on Renderosity. Imported one of them into Vue and applied the decayed texture again. Doesn't necessarily look sci-fi, but it's destroyed, so...

I know these are low res but they are still very good pieces for ruin or weathered buildings

I plan on douing higher res versions once I know what Lingster is looking for, but yeah, I'll probably do some high res of these anyway for general use.

Those are descent. What I'm looking for primarially is ruins. Junk. trash. As if a building fell over and spillled it's contents on the ground.

It's kinda hard to explain I guess. Think Terminator in the future, the whole world is trashed. Buildings don't really exist much anymore.

The buildings I'd want are just like a corner on one. I'd like to be able to enter them to do battle.

Objects I'd like to see are:

Rusted Steel girders sticking out of rubble.
Bent twisted rusted girders laying on ground.
Chunks of buildings.
Moss and vines that would look good as if they were growing on the stuff.

This of it this way:

Atlantis, being buried under the sea for millennia comes to the surface. Most of the buildings are rubble, with lots of alge, moss, and other plant life clinging/growing off it.

Ok, when you said Coruscant I figured you meant ruined skyscrapers. Let me fiddle around some more. Doing twisted anything in vue is difficult since it doesn't have deformers.

Messing around more, I'm not sure I can do what you're looking for, Lingster. There are some ruins objects already out there, some on my site, and a lot of debris items on my site, like girders, rubble piles, loose bricks, etc. I think you might have to use some creative objecting in DJ to get the effect you're looking for.

I'll keep messing with stuff though. Do you by chance have a picture of what you're looking for?

that definitly works. Perhaps make only a small section of the wall.

I do not want to offend ANYONE here. But a perfect example of what I'm looking for is that one picture of the girders sticking up after the two towers fell.

Something like that. I'm sorry, but that's the image that comes to mind when I think of what I'm looking for. If you've read any of the New Jedi Order books with the Vong invasion, you'll understand what they did to Coruscant.

Ok, Lingster, I'll work on making some wall segments similar to those so you can place them where you like. as for growth and vines and moss, you'll probably have to use existing stuff as overlays.

This is great stuff. Nice to see someone working on post apocalypse stuff. Wish I still had all that old artwork from Fallout 1 & 2. Would be interesting to try to make a perspective pack with it.

Hey guys, I just posted one of the hi-res PNGs of the sci-fi ruins to my site that some showed an interest in. If there is demand for them I can do some more variants. It's under Sci-fi structures.

There are like three sets of PA buildings on Renderosity:

http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=40621
http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=40622
http://market.renderosity.com/softgood.ez?ViewSoftgood=40628

I want to eventually buy these for my own PA game that I run on my PbP site.

I've played Fallout 1 so many times I've lost count. But then I did work on it so I guess that makes sense. :)

Surprisingly I never finished Fallout 2. That project was such a rush and I was so burned out on Fallout by that time I never did get a chance. I should do that sometime.

I only have Fallout:Tactics - Brotherhood of Steel. Don't know if that's Fallout 1, 2, or what. It's a great game though.

Technically, it's Fallout 2.5. And the first two blow it out of the water.

Not that I'm biased or anything. It's a great game. Just that the others are spectacular. (And I'm sure Metajock will back me up on that.)

I had to dig around in the Best Buy bargain bin, but I found a dualpack of both Fallout's for 10$ (some other nice stuff like Starcraft and Rainbow 6 in there, but I already had most of it). You can find them at various online bargain gaming shops, I'd post a link but I lost all of them, sorry. And you can find thier predecessor, Wasteland, at any abandonware site or via ebay.

Speaking of Wasteland:

http://rpg.gamesgone.com/

Go under RPG and you'll find it. Download it, and it plays fine, even on high end pcs. Works a bit better with a CPU slow program. The story text booklet and instruction manual are available online (I can help if you can't find it).

I did all the map layouts for the first game and about a third of them on the second game. Plus most of the art processing which basically means an artist gave me the art and I shoehorned it into the game. Sometimes requiring cleanup in a paint program. Back then I was still using alot of Deluxe Paint and some Photoshop to do cleanup work.

That dual pack that Interplay released awhile back still floats around the various discount bins in stores. Its not too hard to find. You definitely want that one since it has the patches installed.

I still have my Apple II copy of Wasteland on the shelf! Though can't run it of course. I didn't work on Wasteland since I didn't start at Interplay until a few years later. Though I did see some of the unpublished sequel before it was cancelled.

And I'm a great leader! Woohoo! Someone tell my old boss, he'll never believe it. :)

Those buildings on your site are ok. Just not quite what I'm looking for.

I need debris... peices that I can put together to form piles of debris.

A wall segment here, a chunk of junk there...

I'm still mulling over those, Lingster. Need to figure out a good way to do them.

I picked up your "ruins" the Rocks, and Temple ruin images. Those are perfect. Just need a "sci-fi" feel to them... :)

I'm going to use them to make a "ruined sci-fi Jedi Temple"

Lingster, you mentioned the Urban Ruins in the other thread, but I have a feeling they wouldn't look like much from the top down.

Kinda.   Say, instead of trying to make the walls, what about making some sci-fi equipment that's been "destroyed".

Yea, consoles, chairs, etc.

Think an Amish guy in a computer room holding an Axe and a Sledge hammer.

Yea, I'm picky.   Only the BEST for me!

I'm thinking it might be easier for someone to take all the consoles and furniture and such that are already out there and just recolor them with distressed and destroyed textures.

I'm attempting that as I type... :)

But I'd like some overturned ones as well... :)

I don't think warping them works well. Other things will have to be done to something other than "girders"

perhaps in 3D program you use to make these, you can deform the item in there somehow?

I deformed the couple of consoles above inside Poser. It doesn't work very well in my opinion, because the item isn't "rigid" like you would expect it to be. It really only deforms the same way you would deform something in a 2d paint program.

I did try a girder or two, and the deform didn't work well on them at all, only part of the object would deform, other parts were totally unaffected. It just wasn't at all the bent or twisted girder effect you would ever want.
