Before I go too far on this project, I wanted to get some feedback from the DJ community.

Is this type of map useful to anyone?

That's very cool! Where did you get all the houses? And the shadows are GREAT!

I like it. Those kinds of maps could be really useful for setting the tone for a scene, but probably not the best for miniatures play. Still, useful!

I'm in the process of creating the houses now (as well as other "decoration" things).

Thanks for the comments.

Slash:

Yeah, this would certainly not get used for miniature play. My thinking was that we needed something BETWEEN campaign level and battle-map level. But I wasn't sure if anyone else felt the same way.

It's good to know that you might also find it useful.

Love it. Awesome work. I would find something like this *incredibly* useful. Kinda like a high-res version of Perspective Pro.

Holy Spit! Way cool! I love the look and feel of this perspective and would use it. I would also love the top-down houses at this perspective also.

I agree, somewhere between campaign maps and battle maps. I would would make great use of this.

I realy love the variety of houses you've done already. Very nice.

I just noticed the shadows. Fantastic. Although it would imply that you have different versions of the same house with different shadows.

dDA:

The trick here is that with these buildings you don't use ALT+arrows to rotate the houses (they would look "weird"). Instead you use Shift+arrows to cycle through all four sides of the house (rotating the building on its center).

Light always comes from the right and shadows always fall to the left (a necessary evil, but I haven't hit any drawbacks because of it [so far]).

If you look closely, you'll see that there are really only 5 different buildings (Chapel, Inn, Tavern, Cottage and Shack), they've just been rotated to look like many more! Which I think is appropriate since many buildings would tend to look similar.

Thanks Trop:

It'll probably take me a couple of weeks to finish the first set. I still need to add some key pieces (Market, Keep, Tower, Dock, some trees/bushes and some other small bits) before it's ready to be used.

Then, in time I'll move on to making specialized buildings (Castles, Lighthouse, Shipyards, Eberron-like Towers, etc.).

Oh man I love it! I don't run table games, hence no need for battle maps but this would be great for my game I run on RPOL! I'm running a city campaign and the characters do have a large top down map. This would be great for running around smaller areas and answer the question of which building do you run around to cut off the rogue before he gets away or whatever.

More, more!

I certainly could see uses for this.

In particular in chase scenes or if altitude is involved in a scenario.

I'd love to see what happens with some cliff textures and a tower or two. . . .

Snot on a stick, surf, you're on a roll! Awesome tower, excellent perspective! Love the sandbars, makes me wish it was summer again ...
