Just a suggestion from me ... please comment and/or give your own ideas. We will let Webmaster Scorrt decide the final convention. 
Is use <xxx> for mandatory designations and [yyy] for optional ones.
<type>[_condition(s)][number]_<nickname(s)>[set-label].png
Examples
Rock_Large_grey01_LRK-a.png
Bush_Autumn02_HLB-c.png
Tree_Oak02_SB.png
Marble_Green_MJ_KPL-a.png or Floor_Marble_Green_MJ_KPL-a.png
Bucket_Empty_BLU.png
Screwdriver03_DL.png (eh ... DragonLady)
Car_Ford_Crashed05_BW_DBL.png
Cityblock_SR.png
etc ...
I like using Capital letters for this

The cool thing about this type of naming convention is that you can continue to use quite simple names and not generate duplicates ie: rock_HBP-a.png etc.

Works for me... but does this mean we need a registry for nickname abbreviations?
Seriously, any nonsense like that should work itself out pretty quickly with minimum overlap (hopefully).

Blah. I am having some trouble with cookies and such this morning it would seem. Hopefully I say logged in long enough to send a reply that is correcly identified as being from me! Yeesh.

I believe Cecil already has a list with abreviations he uses for the CSUAC. I suggest we use that one

Heh - Nice of Kep to choose something I already follow (more or less) =P. Don't forget to mention that if you modify something you should include your abbrv. as well: so, something_nice_by_SR_DBL.etc
