Hello all....
I've been asked by the Dungeon Crawl Classics folks to work on their maps for an upcoming tournament, and they've asked for a gothic style temple, with ceiling ribbing, etc.
Has anyone experimented with semitransparent ceiling cover to replicate this kind of effect? I've made some simple struts that don't look quite gothic enough (not curved correctly).
Anyone want to take a shot at this? Is it even a good idea? Even semi transparent, it does distract a little bit from the ground below, and may be a nuisance? Your thoughts????....help? png's....?
Test map with semitransparent ceiling cover struts.

Well, IMO, I would only extend the support beam out a little from the wall and then fade to transparent. This way, you get the idea that there are supporting struts but they dont block the map below as much.

Good point Tim, could you craft a better example png file that would give the impression of a gothic ceiling without covering up so much floor space? I'm trying to create an exapansive open vaulted ceiling look, but can't work out the curvy lofty angles.
Thanks!!!
Ben

Besides Tim's suggestions, I think it'd be worth seeing what it looks like just a bit more transparent.
And if you can find a way to do it right (read: not too distracting), having shadows coming from ceiling beams might be neat.
I guess it's one of those "gotta see it to know if it'll work' deals :)
