Here are some marble stairs I made for a map. The double wide looks a little funky since I pretty much just flipped it...

Those are bloody well amazing! The double does look a tad odd, but it's fixable. Just break up the symmetry by taking small patches of textures from other parts.

And speaking of textures...WHERE did you get that AWESOME marble texture? Is it photo material, something you found or something you made? If it's something you made, you have a DUTY to teach us.

I didn't make the marble texture, it is a photo texture that came with my editor.

I'll try to fix the symmetry in the doubles when I get a chance.

Any chance for marble banisters for our PCs to slide down? Preferably with a

Exactly. This way anyone could use it on whatever flooring they chose. If not then perhaps we could get the texture or flooring you used?
In any event I have the utmost confidence in your abilities.

Very nice idea. I can use any floor with them.

I wonder how hard it'd be to create one where the railing are actually the same as the floor, IE: Marble stair case, with "marble railings"... not sure if I explained it right.

Yea, marble railing like that. But.. a little bit bigger so they don't look quite so "frail"

That is a definite great looking marble.

Futureboy! Awesome job!

I'm working on a massive mansion for a friends game, and he wants me to map the place. It's to go with his horror novel he has just published. If all goes well, we should have a d20 version of the game for sale with the map I'm making for GenCon. I felt it important that I say that, because I want to give credit where credit is due and we hope to continue to use Dundjinni for all our maps.

With that said I'm using some of the stairs Futureboy has created and I need some more if it all possible. Below (if I upload these right) are the B&W jpegs of the steps. Is if possible to render these in some of the same marble textures like you've posted? One of these days I'm going to learn how to do this stuff, till then I shall make humble requests.

Thanks,
Gunmage Krys

Gunmage, just so I'm looking at this correctly...

The small set to the left is just 4 steps and two small sets of railing?

The small set on the right - you just want the curved potion with the rails? Or the platform as well?

The middle one confuses me a little. Are you just wanting the center section? Or also the curved sections to the right and left? And if I'm looking at it correctly, from the left - they go down 2 steps then down 2 step again to the center? The rectangular section in the middle, shouldn't it have less steps to match up? Or a couple step going down on the left and right sides?

Give me some more details on the dimensions and I'd be glad to(at least try!) whip something up! Feel free to e-mail me, it's in my profile.

Oh yeah, which set are you currently using so I can match the rest? If you are using the black, we'll have to get Kep to Keplify it when I get done....

Futureboy, excellent questions all!

I had thought about leaving some initial description, but decided against it thinking I may muddle it up. So, i went back through them in Photoshop, and "blueprinted" some of the areas. Hopefully, my answers to your questions will be sufficient. Here goes . . .

1) Yes, to your first question. The railings though (a) are really more like a concrete stoop suitable to sit on.

2) Umm, yes to both but it's a bit more tricky. The platform (2a) actually leads to the third floor. The landing (b) is actually a step up from the floor, and leads underneath the staircase to the rear great doors and the backyard. Note the blue line I inserted just above (b). This would be the width of the walkway underneath the staircase.

3) The Front Mansion steps are confusing, sorry about that!    I got some clarification today, and hopefully my explanation will clear it up. First, (3a) are to ramps that run to the center section (3). They have two steps that would lead them to the ground. Again, there is a small stoop (3b) that would be higher than the steps [not by very much], but definitely lower than the columns (3c). Finally there is the blue hatched area - x. This area (x) is supposed to be another step leading the front door. Scratch that! In it's place we intend on placing huge front doors!

Ok, I know you asked about scale and I'll try to work on that tomorrow's post. Till then, please leave any feedback on what I have resubmitted.

The overall map of this mansion is huge!!!    I can't emphasize that enough. My initial layout has literally taken the entire area the Dundjinni software provides. That would include the mansion and the small Keep attached to the house.

That's all for now . . . . . . head getting heavy, eyes drooping . . .

Thanks,
Gunmage Krys

Thanks, Danielle!

Gunmage, sorry, still one question un answered. You said you had already started using some of the stairs. Which set have been using? That way I can use the same marble to match them. Also, I can probably fake it, but if you could, I can use the dimensions for the platforms. I can guess-timate the sizes from there!

May take a little more time then normal, but I'll see what I can do. I am in the middle of selling my house and moving into a new one. Also, very busy at work! I'll get a start on it tomorrow though.

Wow! Moving and doing steps! Thanks, for taking the time. Whatever marble pattern you were using when you first posted is what i'm going with. The file - D7F_Marble-steps2_FB.png - would be an example. Does this help?

As for dimensions . . . i don't have any. Give me until tommorrow, and I'll try and post what i have from the original, and what i have from Dundjinni so far. My youngest turns two tommorrow, so i'll be busy with that, but i'll give it my best.

Thanks again,

Very cool stairs...

You might say you are a "step" above the rest...
"Inclined" to be an expert...An artist on the "rise"...Okay, that is quite enough Grey.

Sorry, Kepli started it.

Futureboy -- I am in love with your stairs! LOL. I adore the other ones too and these are exceptional. I have a thing for marble anyway, and your textures are fantastic along with the design.

Well done!!

Awe shucks, Danielle . Thanks for the comments everyone!

Here is another set based off the last that might be more useful.

The zip:B99_Stairs9.zip

The example pic:

Gunmage, I'll try to make the next set how you actually wanted them!

Excellent, excellent, excellent!

The whole birthday/Fathers day celebration didn't allow me to do diddly. Nevertheless, I'm going to try and a) post the original like i said, and then b) place what you have into the Dundjinni file and either email or post it so you can see it in the final product.

Thanks for all your effort. I really appreciate it.

Ok, Futureboy here is the post i promised . . . this is the front of the house and internal view with most of the stairs.

Let me know if this helps for scale. I know its small.

Great stuff guys! New art is always a step in the right direction.
Hey FB, can we get that marble as a floor tile too? That is when you aren't busy posting other awesome art, selling your house, or making the world safe for democracy.    I'm sure when you get around to it we'll be floored by the results.

Er.. ok I'll stop now..

Melisere, I'll post the main tilable image I used for the marble. I made some variations of it so the stairs could be textured different. But, when used as a floor they don't look good at all. I think it would take a great number of variations for a continuous marble floor to look good. If I get time, I might be able to work on some kind of mabrle tile file.

Keep in mind, when I use this texture for objects, I adjust the light and add reflection maps to change it up a bit.

Thanks FB! I'm using PSP 8 and been trying to learn to make flooring from jdale's tutorial. With any luck I'll be able to whip up something useable.

Futureboy!
Here is a sample of the Foyer entrance. Me thinks scale and marble color are becoming an issue . . . I reduced your stairs to 75% and then cut/erased to fit. These stairs lead to the second floor, while the set of steps goes all the way to the third.

Any thoughts and I'd be happy to hear them . . . now i must get some . . . Zzzzzzz . . .

Thanks!

Hmmmm, did I not put a transparent background on those?? Thought I did, I'll have to check. Are the ones on the bottom the sets you reduced? They look a little tiny. I think I scaled them to be 5' wide.

Anyway, here is the version that is supposed to be the way you requested, along with an example picture.

379_Stairs10.zip

This should teach the kids out there that it's not safe to walk on the railings.

As for the corner stairs, I had made some for a map I posted, but I never posted the stairs. Here you go if you want it.

Sorry these stairs are sprawled across 7 pages of posts! I guess I should have been updating the first post all this time.

I hope I'm getting better at this as I go. I see the shadowing on those last weren't to great, they were an older set.

Yes, they do look tiny. I scaled them to look like the B/W drawing that i posted. Each Dundjinni (yellow) square represents 5 ft., so I'm trying to scale with that.

Do you automatically scale your stairs for that 5ft. grid format?

I'm still trying to tackle the Dundjinni software! But that's me . . . an ambitious novice trying to tackle a professional job.

Thanks again, and I'll post how it all fits by this weekend.

Wow, I leave for a week or two and come back to find so much great new art.
This is worthy of a Community Spotlight, IMO.

Too bad all the good puns have already been taken.

Melisere, here is the last set! Not sure about the ramps. I'll try to make one seperate that you can add to this main piece. Took a few liberties, hope you don't mind! I made the main piece seperate marble slabs, as one single large slab just didn't look right. Also, I added some sentinel statues by tristan_twksbry located here. If you want them removed or and crests added inlaid with the other marble, let me know.

Here is the zip:4Z3_Stairs11.zip
NOTE: Image shown is reduced to 75% original size,

Updated files: Fixed a "misplaced" step.

wow! so nice    I can see using these all over the place. It would be nice to have a version without the statues, though, so that they could be replaced with different ones depending on the map.

Thanks for posting, they are so lovely!

Better yet, post the columns separately, too. That would make them far more
reusable.
