Thought this door might make a good reference shot or a texture source. Cropped but otherwise at full res.
The weathering of the wood along with the rivets just looked so cool.
The other side of the door has wood running in the opposite direction. Those iron bits sticking through are big rivets that go through 3" or so of wood to bind it all together. It is a very solid door.

Very cool reference picture .. I think you can find a lot more of such reference pics at the Gamemaster's Parlor Greytale. I myself posted photo's from Mexico, Scotland, China, Mongolie and Russia there ...

I got to see a castle in the Netherlands a while back. It was somewhere near Lomm. For the life of me I can't remember its name. But it has a rock from the U.S. in the moat. My sons loved that.

Never been to Lomm, but I was born not too far from there ...
We have some very nice old castles here ... not as much as in the UK or Germany though.

There are nearly 1200 castles/castle sites in Scotland alone. I've only been to 100 or so of them.
Been to about 50 each in Ireland and Wales. If you want to see some really nice, big castles, Wales is a good place for it.
One of these days we'll make it over to the continent.

Another door from a wall at Craigievar Castle in Scotland.
Here is a reduced JPEG of the door and surrounding wall. Note the gun loops.
And a zip file holding a full res png file.

The door was too cool not to play with.
