Well I thought I would start the thread to see what everyone is interested in. I am going to keep my wish list small to start.

  • Control of Map sizes, specifically Landscape mode.

  • Select Object - so you can use the eraser on just it and not all of the same types.

  • Blending Eraser - Pixelated eraser or transparency eraser

After that - it is just more art that I want or need.

I put together a fairly detailed list of improvements and features I would like to see in Dundjinni about 7 months ago.

My original evaluation/wish list for Dundjinni

It was fairly well received by others on the forum at the time and, for me, it still represents the things I'd like to see most improved. More importantly it represents the level of improvements I will be looking for when it comes time to pay for the upgrade.

Some really great feature requests guys!

My top four requests for the "Bug" patch:

1) PLEASE fix the "Copy following" (copy and paste) bug posted in the Bugs forum. Additional info regarding this bug can be found at:
http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=3715&PN= 1

2) Please fix the "1 pixel over and 1 pixel up, while snapped to grid" stamp tool shifting bug.

3) Please fix as many "Adventure side" bugs as you can. (The 3.5 stat block info is incomplete: missing touch and flat footed AC's, etc., all WotC 3.5 monsters are listed as "Lawful Good", Allow for CRs <0 (and have them represented as fractions), Allow for a user selectable default font, etc., etc.). Please see the above link for more info regarding all of these adventure bugs.

4) Let me do a little QA before the release. Alpha, Beta, however far you are along, I can help.
I may be able to save you some support issues later.

Thanks,
GTech

Besides what Darkness said,
1.I would also like to see a better selection in the pencil sizes and also some different shapes to draw with.
2.Layers for each type of object, floor, cover ect...

SPEED!

I know this has been said before but that is by far my largest hurdle to using Dundjinni. My computer isn't the newest but it isn't ancient either and it takes so long to create even basic maps that I don't even try anything like the others here.

Just my 2 cents...

Here is a biggy for me.

The ability to reload user created objects in the menu. So I can tweak objects outside of DJ, save them back into the DJ folders and push a reload button to have them update within the working map without having to keep shutting down DJ.

Currently, I end up restarting DJ a few times for each object I tweak. Very time consuming.

Some more from me:

The ability to select an object, cover, etc. and make its layer invisible, temporarily, so you can edit items under the selected object without having to delete/move (whatever) to get to the object. (very frustrating)

Even better, full layer control with the ability to merge layers (to preserve work, and increase program speed), add custom layer effects, shadows, etc.

... This IS a Wish list after all ...

Thanks,
GTech

I've got another wish:

The ability to feather blend floors and covers from within DJ. Maybe a separate Feather blend tool, or a menu command: Feather Blend Floors. That would be EXCELLENT.

Multi-layered floors would be nice as well.
Then we could have the base texture on the bottom layer and have bevel, shadow, and distress effects on higher layers.

Thanks for listening,
GTech

The biggest thing that's bugging me now is the inability to change the map size! Even being able to rotate it would be good, but I'd like to be able to make them larger or smaller as needed. Having to paste pieces together after exporting or printing them is a pain.

A Wish for me would be the ability to create circles and squares!

Primarily for Walls - have you tried using the Curve tool for drawing a complete circle? Tried drawing an interior second wall?

Looks like an earthquake hit my buildings....

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums, again, JasonBrisbane!

DJ already has the abilities you requested.

The tool you need to use is the Marquee tool.

Here are a couple of pics to help you:

The Marquee tool in the Toolbox:

You're getting really good at this tech support stuff, GTech.

Thanks Heruca.

Truth be told, I should be good at it, I used to be the Service Manager at a local computer OEM. (Original Equipment Manufacturer) I did tech support all the time.

I also used to do QA testing for a small, local programming firm. Heavy on the data side and user interface.

... Oh yeah, I'm also the personal tech support, "Why is it doing this", and "Can you fix it" guy for ALL of my friends.

Thanks for the Kudos buddy,
GTech

Hey, still kinda new to Dundjinni and loving it so far. Maybe this is already possible and I just havent stumbled onto it yet but it would be grat if when you change the map scaling from the default 5ft/square that it auto-scaled art objects to fit the new scaling. This could be a feature that could be toggled on/off.

ie. With the feature on a normal object such as a house or cart that may fit in a 2 square x 2 square area on a 5ft/square scale would fit in 1 x 1 area when you change the scale to 10ft/square.

Edit: I have to second this suggestion as well

"The ability to feather blend floors and covers from within DJ. Maybe a separate Feather blend tool, or a menu command: Feather Blend Floors. That would be EXCELLENT."

Would be great on overland maps to be able to blend the change from land to sea or plains to forrest etc etc

A few wish items.

a) It would be nice to have a pen tool which would work exactly like the pen tools Adobe has in their software. I can't tell you how invaluable that would be in creating complex floor plans.

b) Don't clear already drawn outlines from the user unless a specific action is performed. For example when I design an outline that is complex the whole thing could be ruined with an inadvertant click. Perhaps have a Marque tool button where a user can select objects with and have this be a way to eliminate an outlined map. Having a pen tool would greatly eliminate this problem as well.

c) Have a refresh button that reloads any new art into the folders so I don't have to restart Dundjinni everytime. This should be incredibly easy to do.

d) use threads when paiting the pick list. That way the pick list can be filled while I can continue to work without having to wait for the process to finish. Whenever the pick list is filling I have to wait for some time before I do anything. Having this process in a different thread would make the process less painful.

e) it would be nice to have a burn and dodge tool like photoshop has so we can add shadows or light effects on our own without the use of images.

f) Light settings. The ability to give a map a night or daytime feel by having Dundjinni adjust the light settings automatically.

g) the map items window is a bit clunky. It would be nice if it can justified with speed issues to combine the pick list with the map items and create a mock-up of an Explorer window. That is have a folder browser on the left side listing all folders from the Dundjinni folder only then from there allow the user to drill down until they reach an area with images. Then display the images as a list or as a thumbnail. This would make both windows more functional and practical and I would think a LOT faster and easier to use.

h) If a user moves art, have an option to try and fix the broken art by trying to find the art. Since the art objects should be defined with a least the name of the art, Dundjinni could search through the object folders (just the Dundjinni folder again) to see if it can find the art and update the new link. This could make adding art and adjusting folder art a lot easier. And with the refresh button I can do it all without having to close Dundjinni.
i) If possible allow the print to print to a file by stitching the images together and creating one large jpg or tiff or pict or whathaveyou.
j)Exporting to photoshop would be cool if it separated all objects into layers. It would make tweeking your maps in photoshop a lot easier.

That's all for now. A lot of these are huge enhancements but I think these enhancements are vital for increased functionality, ease of use, and fun.

Hi Monk,

Thanks for your suggestions.

Most of your suggestions have already been noted and described. Some however are new

Your welcome. I'm a programmer by trade so I can understand the work behind a lot of my requests if they ever get implemented.

I have one more that popped into my mind that I find would be a HUGE bonus in the next release.

a) The ability to group (and ungroup of course) objects together.

Just contributing something to the wishlist...

I noticed a the new art pack for HeroClix. I think it would be cool to eventually see an art pack for HorrorClix! A lot of possibilities for art in this theme that could easily transfer over to the other game genres currently in Dundjunni. I noticed someone post a HorrorClix map in the map section, and while they were quite impressive, I'm sure they would have been THAT much nicer with a Horror art pack.

Some things I'd like to see in Dundjinni:

The ability to add Iron Heroes-style Interactive Zones. I think implementing them similarly to how character/monster tokens works now would be sufficient. Just so long as one can describe the zone properly, and ensure that it is captured in the stylesheet output.

I'd like to be able to search for images.

More, much more, Ed Bourelle artwork.

Character/monster tokens by noted artists like Wayne Reynolds or Jason Engles.

WoTC artpacks (monsters, iconic characters, Arms and Equipment Guide...)

Dungeon Magazine compliant stylesheet...nothing against the Talismyr one, it's great. I just like the Dungeon style too.

Integrated large format printing (integrating directly with Kinko's/FedEx to print maps, for example.)

...in addition to the other improvements that have already been listed on the forum.

Thanks for the suggestions Wurm.

Since most of your suggestions are related to agreements with named artists, I will will those to Mindy and other Fluid management. However, Ed Bourelle has been asked a few times already. I even asked him not long after I started using DJ. The drawback of his work is the EULA though. It's much more restrictive than even Fluids art-packs.

Image search would go with an art-database (still hoping )
