I was messing around with layer styles and found one that reminded me of hide and greytale's Orc tents. I started messing around and came up with this.

keywords: hide, hut, tent, roof, orc, goblin

Sweet tent, DW!

I hope you can do more "rustic" stuff like this. We could use a good teepee,
for example.

Since uniform hides were hard to come by I made a slight modification, hope you don't mind.

Emanon, kewl changes!
Though one section looks a bit too bloody, might attract a lot of wondering monsters that are hungary.

Great variation. The more the merrier. I just figured my Orcs brought down a really large monster so the hide was all from it.

Great huts. Primitive stuff will always be in demand... any chance for more shapes and sizes?

It wasn't the size of the hide that was the problem as much as the curing or smoking of the hide. Many times the hides would be rubbed with berries to color them. Since there were no set guidelines to be followed they would get different results on seperate hides and even on one large hide because of using a different number of berries in the second batch of coloring or a different method of application (i.e. - more coloring on one section of the hide). Also the length of time the hide sat in the sun to dry could cause some color variations, dry sunny days would often create a certain shade (Tan), while humid (Damp) sunny days would cause the drying process to take longer and create a different color or shade. Smoked hides are another story, for they can be made in a wide range of colors based upon time being smoked and materials being used in the smoking process.

Not that any of this really matters to us, but just thought you might like a little insight on the tanning of animal hides.

See, creating objects for the community not only provides great feedback, but we also get to learn a thing or two we might not otherwise know. Thanks Emanon.

That is a great Hut! the one thing I would suggest with the second version is that while I love the variations, they should be a little less dramatic. But hey that's just my opinion and if I said it well who really cares? Oh and by the way you forgot to mention that different colors also came from using different berries and doing the process differently on the same cut up hide.
