Very nice work. looks like there is a white line running the length of the bottom step next to the wood though.

So there is. That shouldn't matter tho. These steps are designed to sit a bit under my buildings. That top step should be partaily obscured by the building ontop of it.

I'll try to fix it anyway. Thanks for pointing that out.

Great stuff, WF.

Between you and Hylas, our building needs are being met and exceeded.

Hey WayneFrancis,

These are Very Nice pieces.

I do have a request though:
Would you please put your initials at the end of the file instead of at the beginning in the future?

Example:
Your current naming method: wef_stairs13x13_200px_a.png

The generally accepted naming convention: stairs13x13_200px_a_wef.png

Placing them at the begining throws of the in-folder organization.

Thanks,
GTech

Hope you enjoy this one. Took me all day to create. I got carried away making the hinges and doors.

These are great, Thanks!!!

I'm not sure how your making these or in what application but if it is
possible I have a request. I have some wood textures that would make for
some useful variations, if you are intersted. They go along with some
buildings that I have been posting and that I have plans to create some
addons for. These are awesome....

I'll add the textures here:

I'm using POVRay. It is a opensource free raytracing program. My first buildings used a texture for the roof but since then I've writen POV files that can generate random shingled roofs, floor boards etc. The wood is not an actual bitmap. Everything is fully 3d. Its takes some getting used to but there is no artifacts when making a sphere or other weird shape due to texture mapping.

That said if you have your heart set on a variation let me know. I can try to recreate the texture into a function. The biggest drawback to POVRay's wood is I have not seen a good wood pattern with actual knots in them.

The hard part is making the objects. Placing them can be tricky. I work with POVRay's editor for the most part which means its all text based. So if I make a change I have to rerender it to see the effect.

The upside is I'm getting good at keeping track of where things are in 3d without seeing it and even better I can make a change and rerender the scene to get objects with new textures. Also I'm not limited in detail.

When I'm happy with an object I render at a distance that gives me the exact 40px/1' resolution then cut out the object and put in the drop shadow.

Here is a closeup on the hing of the cellar door.
You can see how the wood doesn't look perfect, like you might get with a bitmap, but at the distances we are working with they look fine.

Here is a zipped jpeg of the whole door at the resolution above.
2D6_cellardoor_Hires.zip

The last benifit I have going 3d is all the highlights and shadows are automatic and very realistic, besides the dropshadow that I manually put in post rendering.

If you have a particular building or other similar type object that you would like let me know. Even scribble a simple image in paint or just a few good words describing the structure you want and I'll see what I can doo.

Very cool. Really like the cellar door and the corner steps. The building are really useful too. Nice level of detailing.

I was hoping it was just a manner of adding a new texture to the decks
you already had.

No worries, I'll be working on some also.

Great work....
