OK, my next series will cover all things within inns and taverns. No, I am not done with the traps or the stone set. I just have a short attention span.

I know all this stuff has been done to death, but it has not been done by me and I will not sleep until I have drawn everything... ..OK maybe not everything.

Anyways my reasoning. I really enjoyed creating the wooden bench. Wooden Bench So I wanted to do some more pieces of the same kind; battered, aged, and lots of character. I hope you enjoy. Oh and I might through in a back story or two. After all, taverns are where it all begins.

I can't see much difference, except that some are a little darker in the middle.

The difference is fairly subtle, SR. Might be hard to see on some monitors.

I welcome the variety, anyway.

GreyTale ... That Table is AWESOME!!!

I can't wait to see what you've got in store for us in the rest of this series!

It's obviously a PERFECT use of your talents.

I think that's the best DJ table I've ever seen.

Thanks Buddy,

I love that table. Can we get a couple more so our tavern tables are not all the same?

And we could use matching benches!

You can expect it. There will be lots of character to go around.

Is that foam in the middle and last ones?
I'd like to see the middle one with yellowish or brown liquid, ie. beer/ale. Perhaps with a tiny bit of foam? Otherwise it looks like your drinking milk! What a sissy drink!

Thanks. Making this was kinda fun, and fairly easy. I'll eventually get to the
point where I can create more complex objects from scratch.

Wall torch, very nice touch. I wonder how long they last and how many times a night a servant has to replace them? Too lazy to try and find it in my books.

Great item, Greytale!

I'll second the request for an unlit version. And if it isn't too hard, a torchless
holder, too.

Say Greytale...

Any chance of a...

BAR FIGHT!

?

Overturned tables, benches, mugs, especially mugs from that one drunk patron...

Anyhoo: here's my "lingsterizations"

The Elves still have to drink, and they don't like Ale!

And for those that like a full mug:

And for those refined rich folk who like thier drink in a GLASS:

Yes, the "glass" is semi-transparent to show the table underneath. :)

I love what you have done Greytale! Excellent work!

I wanted to use the sconce in a new map so I went ahead and made some modifications. Greytale, I hope you don't mind.

I needed an unlit version of the sconce so in the meantime I Photoshop'd the original to get me through until Greytale makes one. It was also shortened a bit to work better in my map. The unlit version isn't the greatest but it is good enough to get me through my game next week.

Looks good Dorpond. I may get around tonight to doing some variants of the torch but it all depends on my mindset whether I mod or create.

Cool! Once you make the unlit torch, I will toss away my feeble version. :)

Thanks!

Just an added thought...

Does everyone find the bracket of the original too long? Looking back now at my original Dorpond got me second guessing (not a bad thing). I left the bracket long to accommodate the torch handle but looking at Dorpond's mods I think it might fit better a little shorter. Any feedback from people is appreciated.

I like it shorter more so people don't smack into them when moving around the room.

*Ouch! Damn torch got me again!*

Actually, I would just make another version in addition to the originals but I would make them even shorter like a regular sconce.

I think all three lengths are useful, depending on where they will be placed.

I really like those short ones, DP.

GREAT Torch and Sconce Mods Dorpond!!

Yeah, maybe a little too long.

A couple variants on the light effect would be great too.
This one kind of tends to produce a "halo" effect rather than a radiant effect.

Having just the torch flame would be GREAT too.

Thanks Buddy,
GTech

Sometimes you get into a tavern that's not high-class, but rather "poor":

Moldy Bread.

Not all bread is the same. Howabout Wheat?

or Pumpernickle?

Straw doily, green, purple, and blue.

And a dwarf ate all the bread...

Technically it is probably not a doiley, usually they are round decorative pieces. But for lack of anything else to call it I chose that. It probably is just a bread mat.

Thank you Gtech_1!

I think it would be wonderful if we had a bunch of different flames to place on an empty sconce. It is nice to have variety so all the torches don't look the same in a room.. I would have to guess that making flame is probably no easy task though..

Man, great stuff though! I really like this thread!

When I make mods of the torch to be shorter, unlit, empty and a couple of other variants that I thought of, I will add a few flame variants as seperate objects.

I will do what I can with modding the originals (tables, benches, plates) of all objects but ultimately I want to keep moving forward with the thread by creating new objects. That's why I think it is awesome when pieces get Dorponed, Lingstered, Heruca'd, GTech'd, oh and of course Keplified or however else picks up the mighty mouse of pixelation to create variants of my stuff.

Hey GreyTale,

If you could post a few of your flame variants and the light effects, I'd gladly reduce your workload by taking up those color mods for you.

Thanks Buddy,

Wanna shadow it for me? I'll give you the unshadowed version if you like. I'll even give you the PSD version if you want to mess with it.

Please - Keplify it!

Don't be down on yourself it looks pretty good and the design is pretty close to what I had envisioned. Please post it without the shadow or email it to me (PNG without shadow) and I will see if I can't give it some depth.

Great work

If you are in need of some side views of this style of bench, I can make a 3d model of it and post the zip of the model here to anyone that would like to render it.

Per your request Greytale - bench with no shadows. Maybe between the bunch of us, we can do this!

I like blu's idea too - but out of my league..

Here's a BIG update to lessen GT's Workload:

MORE TABLES and BENCHES!!

The ZIPS are first:
33F_benches-jrl.zip
6C1_tables-jrl-a.zip
851_tables-jrl-b.zip
FDC_tables-jrl-c.zip
4BD_tables-jrl-d.zip

Now here are the images in said ZIPS. I've made 4 versions, GT's and DP's... Gives a variety of tables for your tavern.

Hope you like the furnature!

Excellent work Lingster. The different shades are perfect.

If I do another wood texture for the tables we will need a dedicated site.

If you get some time Blu give it a shot. I am curious as to what a model would look like perspective wise. If you don't have time I will be modding Dorpond's or doing my own anyways.

I was making a list the other day and I was going to put a stage on it but then I thought nah it could be created within Dundjinni. But your request just got me brainstorming and I think I can make it a little more than a raised wooden floor. So yes, I will add it as part of the series.

I noticed one thing. My Table and bench mods...

They all end in a -<letter>

This won't work well in DJ due to them not being COVER. They have to be either used as cover, or the letter changed to a number.

Hey GT, I wouldn't mind jumping into the fray on this. Where did you get that wood texture? I would like to make a few matching items if possible.

It doesn't exist. That is I haven't turned it into a texture from the ton of layers that make it up. It's base texture came from one I did for the Orc Tower. But don't worry turning it into a texture is on the list (Kepli also asked).

The top of the bench is much better! I love what you did!

Did you angle the legs in for extra support? Just curious.

Great job!

I copied a piece to create the table top and made the legs appear in perspective ... as does the shadow

Greytale, seem to me you could fairly easily mod your overturned bench into
an overturned table. Not that these tables would be very easy to overturn...

Man, I make nice tables and benches for everyone to use and the first thing you guys want to do is flip them over and destroy them.

I will see what I can do.

Say Greytale, I've another request...

Support Pillars. I could use some support pillars that would be inside a tavern or other such place to support the walls/floors above.

I made the bench not as long.

Only one note on the floor: could you make vertical lines on the texture to show it's made of planks and not just very long pieces of wood?

I wanted to do that but the only way is to make them realy small 5' or shorter planks. I may go back and add that. But I was planning to do some overlays that should make them appear as seperate planks.

That floor is supremely excellent!

The worst part of the sample pic is now the wall. Surely GT has something in
store for that.

Are there any good sawdust covers around? I believe that's what they used
to soak up spilled beer in taverns.

I use a combination of PSP, Realdraw, Photoimpact and GIMP. My tool of choice is Paint Shop, everything else I use is for different effects.

The seam overlays did not work as well as I intended, they were just way to cumbersome to place accurately. So I took a different approach. I have added an additional two tiles to the original set, these tiles have a couple of very subtle seams on each. When applied, DJ places them randomly within the area of the floor. I think the total effect implies long planking while not overbearing the map with a repetitive pattern.

Note: Occasionally DJ will place two seams really close together but this tends to be minimal.

Flooring with random seams Added 10-4-06

(Contains same files as the original but include two seamed pieces)

I just tried it on Kepli's lighter version and some of the jagged edges need to be softened. I will fix and repost so coloring can begin.

Wurm, I add all my stuff to the original post on the first page. So, on my threads all you will ever need to search through the threads for are mods from other people. But it is worth your while because there are some really nice mods in there.

I have PSP but rarely use it. It confuses my wee lil' brain. I guess I've used Ulead so long I'm comfortable with it. Maybe I can lay off the Morgan long enough to try and understand it...

cool support beam.

Don't worry Gtale. I don't mind. I'm working on exterior shots right now so I am just collecting all the items for later use.

perhaps sometime you can expand to make items for other buildings like stores and such...

Darn you people.
I have a tavern map I've been working on for an upcoming game (the tavern from the SouthWest part of the South Haven map), and every time I think it's done somebody posts something way nicer than what I had, that would look better in it than what I already included, and it needs to be changed...
Stop it! Stop it!

Awesome! A few more pages, and we can turn this thread to an encyclopedia!

P.S. Can we get the board and the knives separately, so we can stick them at different angles?

I second this request!
Can't always hit the target, gotta have a few hit the wall or another patron. How else are those bar fights to start?

Of course, it never hurts to have variety.

Nice stool ...

One thing that bothered me - not something that's wrong - is the angle of the bevel on the stool. It's not 145 degrees, which I see used mostly and always use myself. However, maybe it's something we need to discuss and agree on together.

So ... I suggest we use 145 degrees, which would put the shadow on the right-bottom part of a bevel and the light part on the opposite side.
Any thoughts?

BTW doesn't mean you need to do this again, since you can rotate this piece. It's mostly for floor tiles that use a bevel

Nice lantern GreyTale!

Minor critique: A larger, brighter light halo may help it to jump out as definitely being a lantern.

I Love the detailing on the hook and the bevels on the top cap. Looks Great Buddy!

Good job getting the knives Falcon!

Thanks,
GTech

In the "In use" pic I just used the same overlay as the torch. The lantern itself does not yet have a light overlay.

I have been lazy with doing the light overlays for both the torch and lantern. (Anytime I have done light I have not been happy with the results. Nudge nudge wink wink.) I will try to do some lights today.

It is funny I keep telling myself I have to do some of the add-on/variant pieces that I have promised but I don't have the same drive that I have doing new pieces. I will get there someday.

I would think that the light overlays would be flip-flopped. It's logical that
the lamp would have an unlit area directly beneath it, and the torch
wouldn't. But please don't bother changing the in-use samples, Greytale. I'd
rather see you work on new stuff.

Yeah you are probably right. I hope that someone else who is a little better with light overlays can pick it up.

Any Interest?

... Did someone say ... Traps?

Great Work on the table GreyTale!!

Are you thinking down the lines of Tavern objects or Traps for your next object Buddy?

I've got a few ideas for both, if you'd like them.

Thanks,

P.S. Oops! Great Mods Heruca!

I should have known. I will definatly need to clean them up. I only focused on the visible parts of the cloaks so the parts that are under the shelf are pretty horrid.

10000 Views in two months. That is 9999 times I have viewed it.
Thanks everyone for making this a great thread.
The stone set only has a couple thousand more to go.

I may eventually do a complete series zip. But for now since I am still updating fairly frequently the complete zip would really be a pain to maintain. Instead I have added zips to most of the sub groups within the series. I do need to add one for all the dishes (just noticed I missed it) and will do so after I add a stoneware set. I hope everyone understands.

Ooh, stoneware sounds useful.

And yeah, leave the master zip for last.

If you're using FireFox, grab the DownLoadThemAll! extension! It makes downloading and hoarding...I mean treasuring, all the marvelous images and zips available a fast and easy thing to do.

Über is a German prefix and translates to over, above and super. The Dundjinni forums are uber-sweet.

It's a commonly used (or misused?) word, as a prefix or even stand-alone, in the U.S.

I just may cry here. I just found this thread after spending about a week and a half fleshing out an inn and tavern map. It came out okay, but it would have been sooo much better with some of these items. ARGGH!

Off to go sob in a corner.

lol. Yeah, I've been lurking here a lot watching everyone progress and every time I'm about to need an item, someone makes a better one or one I didn't think of! XD Man, it can be awesome to have so many talented artists working on items and such, but it can be frustrating because they out do each other making your map one step behind the curve!

But I'm not complaining! Work away! :D

I don't know the budget is pretty tight in this tavern. They can't even fix the holes in the floor and you expect a knife and a fork.

I will see what I can do.

This is a GREAT thread, especially since I'm designing my special Tavern in Sharn!

Any chance we can get a Hogshead? (88gal keg) The big ones you sometimes see in taverns.

There are a couple of those already posted on this forum. Or did you want
one specifically made by Greytale to match the style of this Tavern Set?

And we have a winner. I was shocked I didn't hear that four posts ago. Thanks Lurky for not letting me down.

I'm shocked it wasn't 2 posts after...given that Kepli is normally the first one to post on anything good and he's got manners :P

Very nice additions.

I modded this for use along mine shaft walls, or if you just need a simple wooden column in a building.

I modded Blu's original. The 2 support beams are transparent so you can see that they are there but still see under them.

Great work people. Every time I see these threads bump I feel obligated to add another piece.

You spelled chandelier correct.

Transparency - Thanks for the credit but I think someone else recommended it.

Wow, these look great - perfect for a project I'm working on. Would it be possible for someone to post the items in a .zip file? Otherwise all I can get is a bitmap file which I can't use.

Thanks for this great contribution.

Yes, Kep, they are part of the PNG.

What a great item for western games (but not JUST for western games, of
course).

This is great, you could do it in 3 variations:

Nice & clean
Ooops, I missed!
and
To many Rednecks, not enough spittoons!

But if it were Rednecks, the spittoon would still be rather clean... because most of them would be using cups with paper towels stuffed into them instead. Blech.

The splatter drops are a nice (albeit disgusting) touch though.

With the exception of some of my newer cranny download pieces all objects that I have posted on DJ are 2d drawings done in either paint shop pro or photoshop. So no models at all.

I have just started doing 3d modeling in Blender. The spittoon and last weeks prisons stocks were modelled, but both I exported quickly and finished in 2d format to get them done quicker.

Thankfully I have a great mentor in Aegean. Who keeps instructing me in the ways of 3d and I will get better as I go along. But for now 2d will always win out.
