Hi Everyone,
I figured this would be a good place for my first post.
I'm an Optometrist in Maine. Have been in practice here since 1982. I have 2 kids ( ages 21 & 25) and my Wife and I are about to celebrate our 30th.
I have been snagging and using the fantastic maps you all post here for quite a while and finally decided to log in officially. Keep up the great work everyone, these maps add a lot to the games I DM (old school, 2ED AD&D). Hopefully, someday I can add my own creations for everyone else to use, but I am better at modifying what's already here than creating from scratch. |

I had to go back 13 pages to find my first post. I also found a post a couple pages later that said "wow, this is my 50th post!"
Not much has changed since that first post, same office seeing the same patients, only I am a lot grayer. My son is married and my daughter is several years out of college. Oh, and I went from this first post in '07 to forum moderator and now administrator. Only promotions I've had in the 30 years since I got out of the army!

Gee, I had to go back to page 1 to find my entry:

I'm a housewife, former artist/craft person..okay, I still do some artwork but not much as I'm too weak (sick) to do much but sit at a computer and DM an AD&D game via email. I also make semi-precious stone beaded necklaces, or I did. My one fun thing to do these days beside come here is to search through gravel from Montana looking for sapphires, garnets, agates and quartz. I've found quite a lot of sapphires and had some of them cut. The biggest I've found is 11 carats. Unfortunately there were a few flaws in it so ended up with several half carats gemstones.

Not much changed except I'm gaming on Rpol dot net not email, pretty much stopped jewelry work and searching for sapphires, though I still have 1 and a half bags of gravel to search through. My wheelchair can't get into the back half of the house where most of my stuff is. My only child just turned 41 this month which makes me feel real real old! He lives here at home and takes care of me. My husband is older than I am and hard of hearing so he can't do it. Still do lots of stuff on the computer and love coming here to get new png's to use for mapping.
*waves hi!*

I unfortunately did not chime in until page 9. That was in 2007! wow! Four
years ago. Still make that claim, although I'm writing a lot more now.

Don't know how I ever missed this thread.
So, better late than never.
When I started posting here a few years ago, I was an IT consultant specializing in Asset Management. I'd travel all over the US working on projects for companies large and small, even worked on a project for the Executive Office of the President (of the US) at the time Bush was on his way out and Obama on his way in.
But, the work was inconsistent, got laid off one too many times and said screw it. The money was good, but not if you weren't sure you were going to have a job next month.
I had moved out to Western Washington state, on Whidbey Island when I was consulting. Got 2 acres with a view of Puget Sound and the Olympic mountain range. Looking for work in this area was daunting. No one would ever reply to a resume submission. It eventually got to the point where I had to look for lesser paying work.
So now I build and repair wheelchairs, of all kinds. It's more rewarding work than consulting, which was more like being a salesman. The only drawback to my current career is that I spend a LOT less time on the computer ;)
Earlier in life I was in the Army for a short time, 81-84, spent some time in Germany back when there was still an East and West Germany. I was with the 2nd Sqaudron 11th Armored Cavalry in Bad Kissingen, defending the southern Fulda Gap. This would explain, to some anyway, why I do so many military vehicle renders. ;)

One of my best friends calls himself "mental prostitute" and I agree to that
term.

Fulda Gap - Soviet highway to the west. Not the place you would be if
WWIII started as it was the first strike zone for Soviet TacNukes.
