Wow PokerPhaze, those are awesome
The only thing these need is a drop-shadow and make them more to scale.
Oh, and please add an abbreviation of your nickname to all the file names (like "_PP")

Welcome aboard

Thanks for Comments
I'm a newbie to this forum of course, so sry for the dumb questions
as for the Drop shadow:
what you actually mean is a small black glow around the objects, so it results in a kind of "enhanced" anti-aliasing?

well ok thats it, some more works are coming zup soon

Correct PokerPhaze
The drop shadow is a common used "glow" around all art objects you find posted here. I and several others have posted about the drop-shadows a few times, so you can easily find some of the settings we use to get them

I'll say
Could you also post a more to-scale version? So one large one and one that fits the 200pix =5 feet scale?

Welcome to Dundjinni, PokerPhaze.

I wouldn't mind seeing some dungeon detritus, you know, the refuse and discards that adventurers and monsters leave behind, so my dungeons can have that dangerous feel to it. So many dungeons seems so aesthetically pleasing to the eye, like someone comes by regularly and sweeps. Heh.

I don't think I've seen DJ art for this kind of thing, or I've forgotten, which is entirely possible.

by Detritus you mean like.. body Parts and blood Splatters, rusty armor and broken swords around right?
It should be not so hard to "compose" a Pile of Detritus out of Art posted here on Dj...

True, but I was thinking more useless items and trash items that one might find tossed into lonely corners and on steps, such as torch stubs, iron ration wrappers, broken bow strings, discarded potion vials, melted candles, broken lanterns, miscellaneous bits of torn/shredded clothing, and even organic wastes like pieces of food or offal.

I display artwork to indicate items found. If I send the party to recover an Item I show them a picture of what they are suspose to find. Also If the party decides to keep a special Item I make a Sheet out with the picture of the Item on it and stat it out. Our group uses alot of props....Fake gems for gems found, scroll sheets with spells on them, Paper Money. Small bottles for potions.ect.ect

Nice bedroll, PP. Could you do a top-down render of it? Most DJ art is top-

@ Varl: Ok I guess I could do Stuff like that (it's new to me though but I also joined here because I hoped to get new ideas and learn new stuff )
partially I post stuff I already finished here, but the Bedroll for example is made from scratch (it only took me, like, 5 minutes or so)
for my creations I use "3D Studio MAX", a 3D Creation Program by Autodesk,
and for my 2D Work I use "Corel Paint Shop Pro XI"
what is a top-down View again?
I'm in school right now, but as soon as I'm at home I think I'll make some adjustments to the Bedroll, it doesn't look that good right now, I think it perhaps needs some sort of Belt so it doesn't unfold and I'll change the Lighting around a bit

Top-down view is what you get when you look down on something. Just take a look at all the DJ maps on this forum and you will understand

Kepli,

I am very curious to know how you did the sword modifications on page 3? These are incredible! I would really like to be able to do that myself.

I use Photoshop ...

1. Select the sword part you like to modify with the Magnetic Lasso Tool and use the normal Lasso Tool to change any mistakes you made.
2. Select one or more filters or other effects you like to use on the selection.

That's it basically
1st sword: used a vegetation texture and layer effect "Overlay" on the selection (probably also made it lighter and sharper)
2nd sword: transitions to make it very light cyan and then used the Snowdrift filter.
3rd sword: transitions to make it red and then the Plastic filter.
4th: sword: just transitions to make it blue

hm what was wrong yesterday with the servers?
I made some new stuff or modified old stuff of mine:

I gave the Blood a slight Drop shadow

I repositioned the broken Parts

The Top/down View of the Bedroll. sadly my Computer died on me while I was modifying the File, which corrupted it, so there will be no more renders of it.

A new Sword, which I called the Devil's eye

Oh Yeah and @Huri:
I Only have one Helmet in 3D I'll post it here soon, but all the other Armor suits and Helmets I made in 2D would that be ok to Post here?

Most stuff on here is 2D PP. We just add shadows to give it a 3D look

Excellent new additions

okay...
hm but what if the Views are kind of "incorrect"?
when, for example the Armor is not viewed from the front, but with an angle? dunno how to explain this :P

Then it's leaning against something
A good shadow will create the illusion of a top-down image in that case

I see what you mean ... these are nice but have a cartoon-like quality
Don't think we would call that 2D. Looks at the pieces GreyTale made. He doesn't render those, he draws them in 2d and adds effects to make them look 3d. I do that myself. Just look at the latest image I posted in the Social Lounge . The walls are drawn in Photoshop, nothing else
Sample.

mhh?
what do you mean, render.. xD
I make these kind of images with Paint shop Pro XI... they "are" 2d, the problem is that in my opinion they don't fit into the Style of the game.
they are, as you said, too Cartoonlike.. but hell, I posted them anyway, just in case somebody could do anything with them

What you created in PSP is 2D, so you are right
I believe you use Max 3D to render?

Here is the suit of armor. tried to take out some of the cartoony feel. Not sure if I succeeded, but I think it looks better - and more to scale.

Nice mod Futureboy , it's much improved. Do you have a version in a bit higher resolution? The higher the better, I can always downscale it myself. For use in my game, I like items to be 200 * 200.

No - sorry. I start off with a larger high res version for better detail. Once I resized it for DJ, I saved it that way. I usually save larger files in case I want to modify later. But since I was messing around with someone elses work I didn't do that.

Nice barrel PP, but would you mind making new threads when the items are not Weapons & Armour, so people can more easily find your other pieces (also for the sleeping bag of course )

Very cool sword!
But it's a little too big. Here's one closer to DJ scale, with keplifications (hope you don't mind).

It's a whole five pieces... I'm sure you can manage to do it on your own. Right-click save is good exercise. Lazy bastage

Oh man, that is so good. Comment though, the DJ scale you are showing would be a mace that is 5 feet. When I reduce this to be a useable scale for me, the drop shadow gets so dark that I loose some of the object. How I get around this on my renders is to not add the drop shadow until I have it at the scale I need. Just a comment

Great work....

Wicked

Blu is right, best to add the shadow once you have the right scale

Any chance of getting a version without drop-shadow so that we can scale it and then add our own shadow?

Although the smaller version does make a great Giant's mace

Hi everybody, I'll be probably posting stuff again in the next few weeks on account of having a lot of free time.. but since I haven't been online here for a long time I don't know what I've posted already (I still have just about 40-60 still unposted artworks of weapons an stuff like that) so it may be that I repost old stuff by mistake

Not sure if you already did one, but I could use a Two-handed Maul (long handle).

And a Tigerskull Club (Frostburn Handbook)

Well, I can't post the images from the books, but a Tigeskull Club is a wooden club with the skull of a small Sabretooth on it, tied down with deerskin leather straps. It can be used for bludgening and piercing attacks and the tiger teeth can be used to trip others.

PokerPhaze, I've been doing color mods of your weapons in here and was told that I need your permission to post them. I did not mean to steal your work and will pull the items down if you wish me to. These are the posts in question.

Nah, you don't need permission to mod pieces posted here (unless stated so by the artist), but when you find pieces somewhere else on the internet, you need to be careful with possible copyright issues

Burning gothic shield
-> Kepli made a similar version of this shield some time ago, thx for the idea

edit:(I thought a drop shadow would be inappropriate, it has a very slight orange glow though.)

Given the size of the locking mechanism and the coins, this looks more like a small coffer than a chest. Looking good, though. Are you planning on posting both an open and closed version? That would be useful.

Better yet, how about an empty coffer as well?

Cool Shield!!

The coin box is looking good but the 2 shiny coins are so bright they just look like white holes.

It's been practically a year and I only got to post like three times before my extremely awesome computer ate it. But...my father bought my daughter an extremely cool laptop for Christmas (which she is being kind enough to share with me while I wait for this year's tax return and new motherboard) so I hope to have some more maps soon.

Any event - these are awesome. I'll still re-downloading the basic packs but I sooo happy the boards are still alive and people are still making such incredible stuff.

I can tell I will be downloading for a very long time. Excellent work!!!!!

So glad to be back!

I would like to ask, if I could use this art work for a project that may become a Commercial project at some time.

If I use any I will add you to the credits and send a copy if you send me an email.

Please let me know if this would be ok.

Thank you,
Lee Sweeney

great model. This style is actually much harder to find than the fancier ones. I like the plain jane ones. Much more like commoners/lower levels would use for your day-to-day kobold skewers.

It's very nice to have some common swords.
When you are doing a guard room or barracks you need nice looking but ordinary swords. Thanks!

A Hand Scythe

I'm thinking about decreasing the angle between shaft and blade, think that might be a good idea? it looks a little bit out of proportion this way, imo :/ can't decide

It looks way cool as a fantasy weapon, but I think it would be off balance if it were a real weapon. I think if you shorten the blade about 25% it will look "right".

Got inspired and found a cool shield filter for FF.

And a bunch if zips (3 shields in each zip, so first three in 1st zip)

72B_Arkiv-1.zip
DC1_Arkiv-2.zip
5Z3_Arkiv-3.zip

Enjoy!

I had to make my own shield fikter, was so inspired by Malakovs viking shields, so I did a kite shield filter. Here are some kite shields.

And two zips with three in each.

Awesome! Great weapon for an arch-villain, looks very intimidating.
What software do you use for your models?

The models were made in 3dsmax.
Btw, if other angles on the weapons are more useful to you, I can of course render them from different views.

How about edge views of some of the weapons. that way we can put them in creates for armories or for general stores. Ooh or a barrel of swords and other things like that so we can dress up are storerooms.

I did some different angles on the axe now, I didn't change the lighting though. Might be a little too dark now, I don't know.
A Barrel of swords is a great Idea, Starjammer! I'll get on it when I find the time.

Sorry, I have to bump this thread to ask PokerPhaze for the usage of the items. Unfortunately I have no email adress...

PokerPhaze, can I use your weapons in a image pack for RPG fan publications (PDFs)?

For more Infos you can read this post: http://www.dundjinni.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13277&PN= 1&TPN=2

Sorry Sendorian, but PokerPhase hasn't logged onto the forums for 2 years. If he set up email notification, he may get an email that you posted but don't get your hopes up.

Hi Sendorian / SuperCaptain,

You can reach PokerPhaze at (Justusvk) + "at" + (gmx.de)

But I don't think he'll take requests, he hasn't touched 3dsmax in a long while, more into photography and design these days.

Hi Guys.
@Sendorian: Everyone may use all my stuff for anything. If you use creations of mine it'd be nice of course if you'd show me where/how you used it
However, I do not insist on that.

@SuperCaptain:
A magical staff would be no problem. But I doubt I'll be able to create an owl in 3D. An ant will be manageable.

"Magical staff" is not very particular, do you have any references or sketches for the look of the staff? Meaning more like a druid staff made out of wood or more like some cybermagey thing made out of metal and such?

Oh, a warm welcome - Thanks guys. I didn't realise it's been so long.. I still have lots of stuff I never posted, I hope I'll get around to uploading some of it in the next weeks

Here is a preview of the work-in-progress supercaptainstaff
Notice how it's slightly "s"-curved and has a "c" on top of it

Not sure about the center globe though and still thinking about how to integrate avatars like the ant or owl

Ok so I did this one with an Ant on top as requested. Not sure if this is the way you wanted it but as I have not recieved any reference material I just did it how I liked.
