I'm after some stair shadows/overlays. Using search, I've only found straight or spiral. I want to be able to do like this:

Thanks in advance

As Requested.... murghbpurn, hope this is what you wanted took awhile to make. I can't do any mods to it because of all the shadows. I made it to fit a 5' square grid.
The example I filled in PSP.
Example:

BTW you can always use straight shadow pieces to create stairs like this ... I think I used my ruined versions a few times like that. I mean these.

No Kepli. I think you produce to much artwork already and you need to just slow down a bit. Maybe even just pack up your graphics programs for a few months.

Yes and some advise from an architect. You have too many steps in the corners. Try it with just three per 90 degree turn and they should all be the same size.

If I have time I will try it myself, but you guys already have the parts..

I am sad that no one did them when I asked for something similar - murghbpurn must have nicer legs ;-)

But seriously - holy FRAK those are good - and I like that they were done as shadows, so easy to adapt to whatever stone using for a given map.

See, this is why you guys get the big bucks... oh, wait... I mean all the accolades - which are just as good as cash.... right?

Dahgda,
Yes ... Murghbpurn has better legs than you.

Hi There,

I was working on my very first dundjinni map and using the image with the single step shadow that you created to create a large room with several raised platforms. It looks pretty good except for the the corners. See this jpg as an example:

I was wondering if you could create some shadows for the outside corners of the platforms like a 5x5 square corner, a 5x5 rounded corner and possibly 5 ft diagonal shadow for a clipped corner.

Thanks alot for posting these stair shadows, the are very helpful.

Also I have a couple of newbie questions:
1. I added these images to the user pack as objects, was that the correct/best place to add them?
2. How do you create shadows images like these?
3. Is there another way to create raised platforms? I didn't want to use raised walls because I want the grid to still show on the platforms.

Thanks
Rusty

Welcome aboard Rusty Ironpants (not sure I want to know where that nickname came from )

Normally I also create the corners with such shadows. Can you show me which ones you picked up? (I eh, made a whole lot of shadows )

To answer you questions ...
1. Objects is fine, but people (me included) usually use shadows and other effects as Cover items. Makes more sense, but that's actually up to you. Look in the manual or under Help in DJ for an explanation of what Objects and Covers can do.
2. Personally I use Photoshop to create mine, using a black gradient. Other people use Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, the Gimp (free program) or any other drawing prog that can work with transparency.
3. You can still use Walls for this, since you can put the grid on top of everything, including walls.
Another way would be to use darker and lighter versions of the floor texture you use to create the illusion of height. This can only be done if you actually have those lighter and darker floor versions. Best to do this with user-created floors, since you are not allowed to modify any Fluid art (art in the Fluid packs you can buy at Dundjinni).

Hope my answers were clear enough. If not, ask away

Thanks for the reply Kelpi.

I was using the shadow png images for creating corner stairways that you posted at the beginning of this thread. Specificly, I was using this one to create the raised platforms:

Q: If I use raised walls to create the platform and set the grid to be above the walls, is there a way to make it show above the "platform walls" but below the rooms actual walls?

thanks again,
Rusty

btw - the nickname is from a humorous D&D game where I played a dwarf with bladder control issues!

I love that ...

You can find edges and corners here ...

To answer your question: no, the walls you would use for the platform are of the same type as the walls for the room. DJ will let you put the grid on the parchment (won't even show up on a floor, just on the canvas), the floor (all other types of art wil be on top of the grid) or above it all.
This will most likely change with the new DJ version though

Thanks to Kepli for his instructions on how to make gradient stair shadow maps.

I wanted to make one that appeared to descend with ever diminishing size to simulate distance

It isnt perfect by a long shot and It wasnt easy! It makes me admire the awesome artists here all that much more

Ok sure Kepli

I have refrained from posting maps here because I didnt feel my maps were of the superb quality that I have see other artists here do, wow what amazing maps!
I'd love to watch some of the artists at work making the great objects and maps I have seen here, a fly on the wall so to speak. I have much to learn

But I am glad to share my maps with whoever can use them.

And... I was hesitant to post them because, I rely on Dundjinni to help achieve some of my results, but I rely equally as heavily on post work done in Photoshop, so I wasnt sure if these maps qualified to be posted here, being a Dundjinni forum

All of my recent maps can be found here...
Vengers recent campaign maps

I want to rework some maps I have done before but the one map so far I have the spiral stairs on is here...

Venger,

I couldn't get to your site, but we run the full gamut here. Any maps are welcome and appreciated. When we see someone's maps, then we can provide them with feedback that may or may not help in perfecting their mapping ability. Likewise, their maps may provide some interesting ways of doing things or unique aspects that others hadn't thought of. This helps us all. As long as you're glad to share, we're glad to have them.

Heruca is correct. My ftp server is down tonight. I will have it back online in the morning.

And cool deal dragonwolf. Yeah, I can testify. My maps used to be somewhat plain jane, and they were fine for our game.
but since I discovered these resources, I have learn some new things, and I keep trying to refine my techniques.

It raised the bar for our game due to the eye candy appeal alone! hehe

I surfed through the thread fairly quickly and wasn't sure you've gotten the answer you wanted for the corner stairs.

Are you after something similar to what's in the first block of this post (about the sixth tile down)? And have you gotten an solution yet?

Pulled a couple out of the archives:

This one is Kepli's

I found the files I used to build my shadows, but not the shadows themselves. I'll keep looking.

Zicon also made one as a nice outer corner--It's almost exactly what you were after but I'm not sure if it's still on her site. She prefers me not to distribute her material.
