To me the leaves are a bit too 2 dimensional. There is not texture or bump on them. Other than that, this is a very nice bush/tree

Plants and trees are hard to do. Smaller leaves would help a lot. These seem
out of scale with the branches.

Took your tree, scaled it down, duplicated it a bunch, and stacked it up with a bit of shading and noise.

Blasphemer! Can't you see they're rare specimens of Dendronum Keplificatum?

Here are a few trees and shrubs I am using to make maps these days.

I gleaned these from the Battle for Middle Earth 2 world builder.

I am leaving out the drop shadows so those of you who are proficient with Photoshop or some other proggy ike that can create your own and in the direction and height that you want

But if someone needs drop shadows I can do that for them

Enjoy

Just one question ... is there a copyright on these?

I asked that in another forum, and the indication was that there should be no problem with posting art from a game engine.
But that was with maps I had made using several things togehter, land tiles, building objects and such.

If I give props to where it came from and Im not selling them, would there still be a copyright issue? I don't know for sure.

Grab em while you can I guess hehe

If there IS an issue I will stop posting these.

btw- One of these is the Broccoli tree that was requested I used in a previous map

If these are renders from a 3-D game engine, I would think it's OK. Posting
the actual 3D models would probably not be, however.

Great stuff, Venger.

In the past, some graphics were posted from games, and were promptly cut. It's more of a grey area... best to ask the company (Sierra I believe?) if it's ok, and they're probably for non-commercial use, but otherwise I'll stand behind what Heruca said.

I use a 3DS Max Plugin called Treestorm.. there are many Model presets, so I just modify them around, so they are "fit" for DJ :P .. give them a workover and so on

Pokerhaze, These are awesome.

One thing though. When you post a tree, could you post a couple of different versions of the same tree? That way you can place a couple of trees in an area that aren't identical. It would really be appreciated.

I make copies of the files and rotate them myself and save.

I do this because I find things look better rotated outside of DJ.

Especially Doors

Anyone happen to have some overheads of pine tree? Preferably snow mantled pine trees? I'm not much of an artist and my searches across the internet have proved fruitless.

There are some small ones here:
http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=1991

And some larger ones can be found in an old Download of the Week file
called "Snow_and_Trees". It contains 3 snow-covered pines.

Thanks! That helps. For some reason I was imagining a tree with more needle-like branches. I use these and count myself lucky i have them.

Thanks again

All these trees are stunning! I love the first dead tree with the thin branches. Any chances of getting more like that one?

PokerPhaze,

I make all my commercial trees in Bryce and have no shadow on them for the render. I then lighten and darken sections in PSP. I then only add a small amount of drop shadow because I like to control how much shadow in each map in DJ by adding drop shadows under them.
Example of part of a tree with minimal shadow.

Excellent new tree

An art-pack would contain all the trees you made in this thread and posted as a free downloadable user art-pack.

Hello,

got new hardware and had to try how fast bryce would render trees, now
down to between 5 and 9 minutes, and that is with low speed settings (so
I can still work with bryce rendering in another workspace).

These are just a few for screendisplay.

the zipped archive with 300 dpi pngs are here:
Zipped
trees
. The archive is 14 different trees.

cheers,

// Totte
