Kepli has me intrigued too.

I believe Mindy has said, you'll have to look for her comments, that there will be an upgrade path for DJ1 users. So people buying DJ2 that have registered DJ1 will recieve an upgrade price. Also art packs should not have to be purchased agian tho you might have to download a DJ2 compatible version.

That is the intent as I understand it. DJE wants to look out for their customer base. So don't think that buying DJ1 is a waste because DJ2 is on the drawing board.

All true ...

It's a huge investment DJE does to create a new DJ version, but that doesn't mean we are going to rip our current members of. That's not how we work and is of course not very smart

Are you looking at a similar price point ~$50 USD?

It's been a month since anyone posted on this thread.

Any news on the release of DJ2?

So the last update from Mindy almost a year ago was

"So the next step is to work with this new team to flesh out the functional design with more granular descriptions (program flow charts, etc), the tech spec, and then the milestone schedule. Then it's on to actual coding."

I hope by now, the coding phase has been started.

The design phase is done. However, the coding cannot start yet. Like I said, we are doing some other things first. Those will make the next phase for DJ2 easier though

Sorry to speak in riddles, but that can't be helped at this time ...

From a programming stand point...I'd rather go long in the analysis and design. Done right a properly designed and managed system is very easy to program.

When I was in the USMC we needed to rewrite a system with tons of additional features. We spent 3 months in the design phase and the coding literally took less then a week. The system was very clean too because we knew all the pitfalls before writing a line of code.

I used to hate it when places like valve, id, or 3D Realms would give a "When it is done." answer to the question "When is the game due to be released." and it still frustrates me. But it is better overall then giving users expectations that either are not going to be met or when they are suffer because you have a buggy system or core features have been dropped.

This is all just my personal views.

Hi,

Any news about Dundjinni 2.0 ? release date...

I want to install Windows Vista 64 bits, I believe update 2.0 will work, but what about the actual update v1.0.7, will it run well under Windows Vista 64 bits.

Hiya Exoseven

Yes, update v1.0.7 works on a Vista machine (have one myself with DJ on it), but I must admit I am not sure about a 64 bit version.
Best way to test this is to use the full DJ 1.0.7 version instead of upgrading to v1.0.7 from an older version.

The only answer that I can give there is that I also hope that there will be a Linux version. Java's promise of "write once, run everywhere" often falls short, as is the case here.

Without getting too technical, there are apparently some OS-specific tweaks that went into DJ at some point in the past, to help improve performance, squash some old bugs and give a more uniform native user interface, and unfortunately those tweaks don't really work in Linux. However, with the latest Java environment, it may be possible to lose those old tweaks and still get all of their benefits, allowing us to combine the app into a single Java application which could be run on all platforms that support Java.

We're currently working on some other parts of the program, but while we're in the code, we'll be able to perhaps get a better idea as to whether or not we can refactor the previous tweaks to make DJ fully functional in Linux.

Bear in mind that this is the technical side of the issue. There may be other business/marketing related considerations, but I'm not in any position to discuss any of that, and I'm not even sure that those things need to be addressed until we can determine the technical viability and have some idea as to the amount of work involved to make the changes.
