Any chance we'll see DJ 2.0 released in 2009? I was kinda disappointed that it didn't happen in 2008.

And if I read correctly, you're updating the site? When will we see that because I haven't been around much lately and don't see anything different?

I've been holding off getting Dundjinni till 2.0 comes out.

Though it looks like this software isn't being supported on a development basis at this time, though it does seem to have an active and helpful community.

So is there any news?

If not I may just get the existing version and see what happens.

DJ 2 is still in the design stages, and AFAIK, no actual coding has been done on it yet, so it's not "just around the corner". I believe a special upgrade price will be available for owners of DJ 1, so why wait if you need to be mapping now?

that is a very good point, and if an upgrade will be available, then I'll
probably get the software, my only reticence is the lake of activity here,
as I mentioned in another thread, it's been nearly 2 years since the front
page appears to have been updated.

so I need to know if I am buying into a dead project or should I spend
the extra and go for CC...

personally I like the simplicity of Dj, though it's missing some useful
features, in particular simple outline mapping, and overland/continental
mapping, which a download may fix, but if there is no developing, these
features wont happen.

I'll probably hold off a little longer to see how things pan out here, and
keep my fingers crossed you guys can get things moving as this is excellent software, and I know with the RPG industry in the state it's in
the market is shrinking, so resources to develop are scarce, so here's
hoping...

I agree that the DJ site seriously needs updating. And Mindy should pop on the forums once in a while, if only to show that the developers haven't abandoned DJ.

Also, the Download of the Week page should have a note saying that it has been discontinued. The last update was a year and a half ago!

Ditto. I agree. I think if they could continue updating the Downloads of the Week (Month?) on a regular basis it would help to draw people back to the forums and hopefully inticing them to purchase Dundjinni. There is far too good of a group here to let it stagnate.

A few new art packs would be a great way to draw more interest too. I'm not sure how long, but it has been a while since anything has been added on those.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed.

I seem to recall someone (Kepli perhaps) hinting that a new art pack was coming, but we haven't seen anything since.

I recall it being inresponse to the Armor Wars art pack still saying NEW! on the front page.

Getting that art pack out would go a long way toward reviving the community I think.

Regards,

a chat room is a simple addition, we have one over at rpgRM.com which works well, though you'll find it's not as popular as you may think.

do the developers participate in this forum on regular basis?

as for site development, I could offer a little help if I have some time (which is rare these days) as that is one of the things I do for a living.

flash chat is the easiest to integrate, and it only costs $5

though I'm not sure how easy it is to put into web wiz forums, though should be fairly simple.

glad you like the place.

I suspect there could be some great synergy between the sites, as the Dj software would be great for online maps.

and I'm feeling more confident about the level of support, as the community over here is quite active, even if the developers aren't - lol

So the initial post for 2.0 was just over two years ago, and no coding has been done on it yet?

I'm getting the feeling that Dundjinni 2.0 is being used to generate in-game assets for Duke Nukem Forever.

*bump!

Any updates on DJ 2.0? Or is DJ developmentally orphaned at this point?

Development of DJ 2 has been halted until further notice. Not really much more I can tell you all

Thanks...I thought that was the case after so long without any news.

DJ is such a wonderful capability, so it'd be a shame if it doesn't continue to mature. Has there been any discussion of opening up the source code and making it available for the open source movement to continue its development?

even a semi open source approach may work, ie people buy a developers pack, and have an opertunity to develop and improve the software, with the licence and thus resale staying with the owners (insert lots of legal blurb....)

whatever happens, either say it's over, or give people a real hope something may develop, otherwise even if something does happen only a handfull of die hards will even notice it happen.

it isn't like this is bad software, it's VERY good, and potentially got more scope than just gaming maps, so perhaps you should look at other revenue streams just to breath live into this great product.
