Checking your Java Runtime Environment in Windows XP
Open Contol panel and you should see an applet icon for Java.
The Java Control Panel will load.
Click the "Java" tab
Click the "View..." button for Java applications
You will see the JNLP Runtime Settings
Check the list to see what platforms are installed and enabled. Try unchecking any of the "Enabled" check boxes besides product 1.5.0_?? and click "OK"
You can see I'm running 1.4.2.04, 1.5.0.05 and 1.5.0.06
officially DJ supports 1.4.2.02 and 1.5.0.04
which you can get here

Adjusting Memory Usage of DJ under Windows.
Here are 2 options. The first is a set of .REG files, suggestion from rlphay (thanks rlphay), that can be used to easily change the amount of memory DJ uses.
4F1_DJMemory.zip
Just unzip the files to a location like
c:\Program Files\Fluid
then you can double click the reg file you want to use
"DJMemory256.reg" for 256 meg (the default for DJ)
"DJMemory512.reg" for 512 meg
"DJMemory768.reg" for 768 meg
"DJMemory1024.reg" for 1 gig
The second is for users that are comfortable with using the windows registry.
!!!! WARNING !!!! Altering your registry incorrectly can break windows!
then agian it is easy to break windows regardless. Follow the steps carefully and you'll be fine.
Adjustsing your Dundjinni memory useage.
This can be done by altering the registry key. To do this follow these instructions.
a) Click on "Start" on the taskbar.
b) Click on "Run" in the Start menu.
c) Type in "RegEdit.exe" in the "Open" dropdown box.
d) Click on "OK". Regedit will then start up
e) expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" folder
f) expand the "SOFTWARE" folder
g) expand the "Fluid" folder
h) expand the "Dundjinni" folder
you should see something like this
i) double click on the "Memory" entry (called a key)
j) adjust the number "Value Data" text box to suit your hardware configuration. IE if you have 2gig of RAM you can put this up to 1024 which equal 1024meg or 1gig
k) click the "OK" button
l) Close Registry Editor

The Picklist in DJ loads all images in the folder you are opening in memory. If you have only a little art in the folder, it will work just fine, but if you have a lot of items or several big ones, this will slow down the program significantly and the Picklist will take a while to get filled.
Suggestions:
*) Use small folders ... only upto 30 images or 10 large images per folder. Downside here is that there are litterally thousands of images you can download and use, so you will get an enormous mount of folders.
*) Don't use the Picklist at all. Try finding your art in a browser like Explorer or Adobe Bridge and then select it in DJ.

The latest version of DJ (1.07) permits you to modify the memory settings from within the program (so no need to edit the registry). To increase memory from the 256K default, go to Options/Render Options. The Xmx box in the Render Options dialog can be adjusted up to 2024 (2 gigs - what you would use for a 4 gig machine).
If you have a computer with more memory and want to allocate more than 2 gigs of memory to DJ, then you will need to edit registry settings as outlined above.
