Hello everyone,

We're expecting to have a new patch for DJ in the next few weeks (fixing Java issues and making DJ Vista-friendly, as well as a few other minor improvements). While we're having it professionally tested, we've found that we often get the best results from volunteers. So we're looking for a few good men (and women, of course)to step up and help us test this new patch.

I know some of you have tested for us in the past - but am not sure who is still active, interested, and available to devote at least a few solid hours to testing in the next few weeks. There may also be some new volunteers who'd like to sign up.

So, could those experienced DJ users who have tested in the past - and/or who wish to do so this time - please email us at webmaster@dundjinni.com so we can get a beta test list going for this patch?

Yes I'd be glad to test it, I just installed Vista and now Dundjinni's texture do not display!

Mindy, I sent a message to webmaster@dundjinni.com, but haven't heard anything. Will there be any acknowledgement, or should I just wait.

Sorry, guys - I've been a bit slow in responding to the latest set of testers. I'll be getting something to you tonight or tomorrow, if you've emailed - as I expect we'll start testing the patch by early next week.

Is there a way to ensure that all of the artpacks are registered...short of re-installing all of them?

Wurm, is that a feature request for the patch? Or just a question?

Maybe both... :-)

But, really, it was just a question. I should have made that more clear.

Then I don't know the answer, as I've never had to reinstall or uninstall
anything with DJ. Hopefully someone with more experience on that front will
chime in with the answer.

I never needed to reinstall any DJ thing either, but when a pack is installed, I believe you can see it registered in the Windows registry.

It has been my experience that if you uninstall then re-install, you get an error message (something missing?) when trying to load until you've brought it back to the same stage when you uninstalled.

So there must be something, somewhere. Probably in the registry like Kepli mention, although I'm not familiar with the technical.

While I can find many references to Dundjinni in the registry, I don't find the artpacks listed at all. There seems to be a process associated with at least the java based artpack installations where the djx files are "registered", but I obviously don't know what that means. That's what I was referring to when I asked the question about re-registration of the files...

registered art pack have a key put into the AddKey registry key under the Dunjinni folder.

The registration process is keyed to you specifically. IE you can't send a friend a key for an art pack and have it work for them.

Hello - been a long time since I've been around here, but I'm getting back into these things and have a new buffed PC with Vista Ultimate OEM install that would be good for testing... was about to bring 1.06 over from my old PC and give it a whirl.

Please let me know if I can be of service.

mdono :)

You don't already have those? I have two closet shelves and three drawers dedicated to dev-wear

BTW, I have tried many hacks on Vista Ultimate and still can't get the objects to display and even the mouse coordination is out of alignment. Java is truly evil.

Unfortunately, I think the rest of the problems are Java-related and cannot be fixed until the new patch comes out. If you do get the issue with the images (presumably with the artpacks) fixed, I'd really be interested....

Ok - this works for Vista Ultimate. Should work for other Vistas as well:

Uninstall Dundjinni
Uninstall ALL Java Runtime Environments, patches, updates, etc.
Get your fresh Java here
Install Java 1.4.2_02
Install Dundjinni 1.04
Install Dundjinni patch 1.06
Download the updated Talismyr Style sheet (optional, but highly recommended) here
Put the Talismyr zip file in the root of C: and unzip it there, approving the overwrite of existing files regardless of date.
Reinstall your art packs.
Install Java 1.5.0.04

DO NOT Install Java 1.6

Having done the above, everything shows up and works well enough.

Nice work, mdono. I moved to Vista awhile ago and have been running Dundjinni on XP in a VMWare VM. Looks like I can ditch my VM now. Before I start down this route, is there any need for beta testers on Vista Ultimate that haven't followed mdono's path?

Thanks

I'll be working on a sample adventure in PDF and DJA formats this week that I will post on or about 01/13. Will provide Vista notes with the adventure, highlighting any issues I encounter (if any) during creation, display and printing.

I have never messed with Java before.
Do I uninstall it from Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs?
Do I have to delete parts of it from anywhere else?

Yep you remove it via Add/Remove programs.

If you allow Java to update itself automatically it appears to install multiple versions of itself. For whatever reason, Dundjinni doesn't run very well when there are multiple versions so you are better off just having 1 version. Look for various files named "J2SE Runtime Environment [Version Number]" and delete then follow the various instructions above (But ensure that when you come to run Dundjinni after installed, you only have 1 version of Java installed).

I sometimes use a java / intranet based database tool called Business Objects and it also has issues with Java versions and clean installs so Dundjinni isn't unique in this regard.

True in many cases. However, DJ runs fine with both 1.4x and 1.5x (as supplied here) installed at the same time. You can probably get by with just 1.4x, but I seem to recall that adventure printing wants 1.5x... it's been a while since I tested with just 1.4x... will confirm in the next few days.

Hey mdono, YOU ROCK!!!! Same goes for everyone else who helped in figuring this thing out!

I followed your instructions and DJ works great on my new computer!!!!

The OS is Vista Home Premium and a third of my older programs don't load or run on it, but at least now Dundjinni works. I'm going to try reloading some of the other failures and see if it helps them to.

Thanks!!

You're welcome

BTW, I have not had time to create a new adventure yet... have been building a new gaming table... 4'x7' made of 2x6's with about a gallon of polyurethane on it... but I may be able work on an adventure Sunday while the final coat dries.

This thread started back in August on getting a patch available "soon."

Any word on the release of 1.07?

I'm willing to beta test the new patch on Vista home premium (a dundjinni coffee mug wouldn't go amiss for type testing )

Welcome aboard Glueside

The patch itself is ready and seems to work fine. I have several Java environments installed, including the newest Java 6.3. All seems to work normally.
However, we have added something else that needs some outside tweaking. It is that part that we still need to finish. It should be released soon though

Hi Guys

I have been tracking this 'coming soon to a store near you' scenario for almost eight months now. Come on, WTF ... every week I come back to just hear the same old story...just a few more tweaks. Please give us a date or somehting , its driving me insane.

I understand you and I wait a bit longer.
In moment, I do not understand, why Mindy does not give us the Beta-Patch!
I can't reinstall or change my systems, I need it for my daily work!
And I can't buy, a new PC
