I've had this idea hanging around for over a year and was waiting for the new DJ forums to propose it, but how about something like this below? Or some variation of it like what Cisticola and SuperCaptain have done. Maybe a little more lax on the no postwork and having to provide DJAs, etc. Post feedback and let's see what we can come up with for doing something like this.
You've seen Iron Chef, you've played Iron DM, now it's time for
Iron Dundjineer
Rules:
- 10 art objects from the forums are selected to be used in creating a single
space(room, outdoor area, etc.)
- Only those 10 art objects can be used in the map.
Exception: You can use any shadows you want from the forums and as many as
you want. If you use shadows, then you must provide the link or a zip for those ones
you used.
EX: Wall Shadows - http://www.dunjinni.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=5974&PN=2 2
- Art objects that are covers and in a set that is all one type of object just different varieties count as one object.
Ex: Surfbored's cobweb set
- http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/uploads/surfbored/EDA_Web_SB -a.png
- http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/uploads/surfbored/FF8_Web_SB -b.png
- http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/uploads/surfbored/5E7_Web_SB -c.png
- http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/uploads/surfbored/179_Web_SB -d.png
- http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/uploads/surfbored/F5D_Web_SB -e.png
- Size of the map can be no larger than
40' x 50' @ 1" = 5' scale = 1 battlemap
- Since the objects are from the forums, they must be user-art and not restricted from commercial usage
- The 10 objects selected for each round must include at least one floor texture and one wall texture.
- The following structure is to be used to contain the objects and the DJA is to be posted for each entry.
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\< ;Round#>\Cover
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\< ;Round#>\Door
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\< ;Round#>\Floor
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\< ;Round#>\Object
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\< ;Round#>\Pit
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\< ;Round#>\Trap
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\< ;Round#>\Treasure
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\< ;Round#>\Wall
Where <Round#> is the Iron DJ round you're working on. The first will be round 1 obviously, so it will look like this
Fluid\Dundjinni\Ma p\Iron DJ\Round1\Cover
etc.
- No post production work allowed since the DJA is to be posted.
- Winner of the previous round decides new objects and provides links to them for the next round.
- Winner of the previous round decides the winner for the next round.
- Each round lasts for only 5 days.
- Object post grace period - 24 hours. Time starts 24 hours from when the
previous winner has posted the objects for the current round. This gives
everyone a chance to see the post.
- The round ends 96 hours from object posting. This gives everyone at least
72 hours for creating a map.
- Only entries in the 72 hour time period are considered when selecting a winner for the next round.
- Winner is to be selected within 24 hours and announced in the Objects and Timeline thread.
Ex:
Object Post was posted 12/21/2007 at 3:30PM (GMT-7)
24 hour post grace period ends 12/22/2007 at 3:30M (GMT-7)
Map posting starts - 12/22/2007 at 3:30PM (GMT-7)
Map posting ends - 12/25/2007 at 3:30PM (GMT-7)
- A new round must be put into a new thread with the follow title and format
Title - Iron DJ Round #1
Here's an example of what the first post should contain -

An alternative for the current Iron DJ winner to provide the next round's
objects would be to search their own DJ art collection they've amassed and
find 10 objects. They can then zip them up and provide them that way.
(NOTE: I will host any zips that can't be uploaded to the DJ forums due to size)
- All entries must be posted to the Iron DJ thread they are for.
-
- Any number of people may post maps for a round. (The more maps we get the better)
So now you're probably wondering why we would want another contest when we have
the bimonthly map contest and the newly started art contest. Here's my thoughts
1 - DJA files are to be provided for all entries. Many DJAs, one set of objects to rule them all!
Er... I mean one folder with all of the objects for opening and modifying multiple DJA files.
2 - All maps are battlemap size with limited objects so they can be created quickly.
3 - Quick turnaround - 5 days to post the objects, post the maps, and select the winner.
4 - Having the DJA and the same objects means you should have a fairly easy time.
making modifications so they could all be linked into one larger map.
5 - The maps could be one part of a larger map that is entered into the Map contest.
6 - We get to see how others think of using the same objects.
7 - Old objects can be brought to the top of the forums where new users can get their hands on some really great art that has been buried. It's like finding hidden treasure.
8 - Users can get the DJA's and see some tricks of the trade on putting maps together.
9 - These maps are small enough that we could probably even manage to use the adventure side of DJ and enter some info for the objects.
10 - Finished Iron DJ rounds could be zipped together and put on the site as Free Map Packs. Kind of like DOTW, but MPOW(Map Pack of the Week). This allows for new users or users who haven't purchased DJ to try it out by playing around with and modifying existing maps.
11 - More people will hopefully take part since the maps are simpler.
************************************************************ ******
Here's a sample of what I'm talking about. You can unzip this in the DJ map folder and then open DJ and either of the DJA files provided.
Iron DJ sample zip (~3MB)

Sounds like a cool idea DW! I especially like the idea of digging up some of the older art on the site... there's been some great stuff posted here over the years.
I still want an object/figure creation contest though... I don't have DJ...
